Days after Blake Lively requested the court to prevent Justin Baldoni from accessing messages between her and Taylor Swift, a Judge seemed to rule in favor of the It Ends With Us director.

However, Justin Baldoni and his legal team can only access conversations related to the movie amidst the ongoing legal tussle between him and Swift.

On June 18, 2025, Judge Liman ordered that such communication could be apposite to the ongoing case. However, it cannot be made available to the public due to a protective order. As per a copy of the court document, the Judge wrote in his statement:

“A motion or request may be, and in this case often has been, both a legitimate litigation tactic and an attempt to maneuver in the broader court of public opinion.”

He also stated:

“Given that Lively has represented that Swift had knowledge of complaints or discussions about the working environment on the film, among other issues, the requests for messages with Swift regarding the film and this action are reasonably tailored to discover information that would prove or disprove Lively’s harassment and retaliation claims.”

Judge Liman stated that Blake Lively was mainly concerned that Justin Baldoni’s team was requesting communications with Taylor Swift not to gather evidence for the case, but instead to support a narrative aimed at influencing public opinion outside the courtroom. Concerning the protective order, the Judge noted:

“That order was designed precisely to ensure that parties may share sensitive information that may be “only tangentially related to the underlying cause of action” without fear that it will be leaked to the press.”

Blake Lively's team issues statement after Justin Baldoni's subpoena attempt against Taylor Swift gets dismissed

Judge Liman rejected the Wayfarer Parties' request to force Blake Lively to hand over certain documents. They had asked for files related to her claims of harassment and retaliation, her conversations with Sony and her talent agency WME, and her claims for financial damages.

Blake Lively had already agreed to provide those documents, other than her communication with Taylor Swift, and planned to finish by the court's July 1, 2025, deadline.

She also offered to send everything by the end of the week if the Wayfarer Parties agreed to share all video footage from the film and complete, unedited copies of certain messages they referenced in their amended complaint. After Blake Lively submitted the prevention request, an insider told Us Weekly:

“Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer parties are still demanding access to Taylor Swift's private communications, despite having already subpoenaed and then withdrawn that subpoena after they ‘got all they needed.’”

Taylor Swift was previously subpoenaed to share texts and any communication. However, it was dismissed later on. The singer’s representative said:

“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release.”

At that time, Blake Lively’s team expressed satisfaction after Justin Baldoni and the Wayfarer Parties decided to withdraw their subpoenas targeting Taylor Swift and her legal team.

They had supported Swift's efforts to block what they viewed as improper legal demands and stated they would continue to defend others who face unfair treatment during the legal process.
