The upcoming James Bond film just got an exciting new update. As reported by Deadline, Steven Knight, the creator of the acclaimed period drama Peaky Blinders, has been tapped to write the script of James Bond's latest venture.

Aside from Knight, the other big name already attached to the Amazon MGM Studio-produced film is Dune’s director, Dennis Villeneuve, who was revealed to be directing the next James Bond installment in June 2025.

More on this in our story.

Steven Knight is the latest addition to join James Bond as the film writer

As mentioned, Knight, who created the Cillian Murphy-starrer Peaky Blinders, is the new addition to the upcoming James Bond film after Villeneuve's announcement as the director. Knight will be joining as the writer and is set to begin the writing process for the film.

In March 2025, Amazon MGM got the full creative control after closing their venture with Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, benefits of which included the full creative control of the James Bond franchise.

The 26th installment of the spy-thriller franchise is expected to be new and exciting with a new set of creative minds behind it. For instance, Steven Knight will be taking the place of the writing duo, Robert Wade and Neal Purvis, who have been the writers of James Bond since 1999. From the film The World is Not Enough to No Time to Die starring Daniel Craig, Wade and Purvis were attached to writing the James Bond films.

Other than Knight and Villeneuve, it was also revealed that David Heyman and Amy Pascal will be the ones producing the next James Bond film. While the camera roles have been confirmed, fans are still awaiting the revelation of another of the most important parts of the film– who is going to lead the film as the 007 agent?

While Villeneuve focused on finishing his next Dune film and Knight was writing the script for James Bond, we might still have to wait to know who will play the role of Bond in this new installment. After the announcement of Villeneuve as the next director of the spy thriller, as per Deadline, he shared a statement and said:

"Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honor the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come."

He continued:

"This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy, David, and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust."

Other than Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight is also known for his work in Tom Hardy's Taboo and the 2021 film Spencer, starring Kristen Stewart.
