The Elixir: Who makes it till the end, and who dies? Details from the latest Netflix horror, revealed

The Elixir (Indonesian title Abadi Nan Jaya) is a zombie movie from Indonesia that was directly released on Netflix on October 23, 2025. Given the nature of the movie, this Indonesian horror movie is perfect for the 2025 Halloween season, as people are looking for different horror movies to enjoy. With a runtime of approximately 1 hour and 56 minutes, the most appealing aspect of The Elixir is that it is under two hours.

The Indonesian horror movie focuses on Kenes (Mikha Tambayong) and her family's visit to her father's home in a village turns into a battle of survival as she and her young son try to escape the horde of zombies.

Netflix's The Elixir's ending explained: who survives in the end?

The Elixir begins with Kenes, her husband Rudi, and their son Raihan traveling to the former's father Sadimin's house, which is located in a remote village accessible from Yogyakarta. We learn that Rudi and Kenes are on the verge of divorce, as the former cheated on the latter.

However, before their official separation, Kenes hopes to convince Sadimin to retire so that she can take over the company and sell it off to build a better life for her and Raihan. Rudi accompanies them as he wants a share of the sale because he was already a part of the business. It should be noted that this might not be as easy as it sounds because Kenes has to tolerate Karina's presence.

Karina was Kenes's best friend at one point in time, but the latter discovered the former of getting intimate with Sadimin, straining their relationship. Thus, Kenes hates her stepmother and ignores her for most of the family reunion. As Kenes and her brother Bambang try to convince their father to retire and hand over the business operations to them.

But Sadimin, who has taken the company's new product, a youth potion (thus the title "The Elixir"), begins to look younger. But there are side effects to this potion. As he is berating his children for being opportunists, Sadimin starts to vomit blood and collapses. But he wakes up as a zombie and bites the driver, Mr. Aris, and Pardi, the house help. Sadimin also gets hold of Bambang and is about to infect his son when the latter fatally shoots the former.

From here on, Karina, Kenes, Bambang, Raihan, and Rudi try to escape the village. But, over the course of the movie, we tragically lose Rudi and Bambang. Rudi especially tries to isolate himself before turning into a zombie out of love for his son, but fails to do so. But luckily, Raihan and Karina manage to survive this ordeal and manage to reunite with Kenes.

Bambang, on the other hand, sacrifices himself as he helps Karina, Kenes, and Raihan to escape. But the movie pulls the rug under the viewers as they learn that Kenes was also bitten by a zombie on her arm. Therefore, Kenes finally mends her relationship with Karina and asks her to take care of Raihan. After bidding goodbye to the two, Kenes shoots herself as zombies approach her. She does so to avoid being turned into a zombie.

The post-credit scene of Abadi Nan Jaya hints that some of the undead have made it to neighboring areas, probably setting up a sequel.
