Hugh Jackman is iconic for his embodiment of James "Logan" Howlett, a.k.a. Wolverine, in both X-Men and MCU films. His latest appearance as the superhero was in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine, opposite Ryan Reynolds.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, at a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the actor spoke about whether he will be donning the claws in the future. He gives a rather obscure answer by stating:

"Maybe. I am never saying 'never' ever again."

Let's find out more about what Hugh Jackman says about the future possibilities of him portraying Wolverine again.

Years back, when the superhero met his end in the 2017 film Logan, Hugh Jackman sounded clear about not appearing as the character again. But in 2024, he returns as the clawed hero in the MCU's Deadpool & Wolverine.

As per the outlet, in a conversation with Graham Norton at the show, Jackman was asked by the host about the actor's earlier denial and then appearing as Wolverine. As Norton asks:

"Every time you're on, you gotta go, 'Nope, I'm not doing that again.'"

Norton continued:

"But then you keep making another one. And it's a big big hit. So are you gonna have to do it again?"

Hugh Jackman then responds with mischief in his eyes, teasing:

"Maybe. I am never saying 'never' ever again."

The 57-year-old star then clarifies his stance about his denial earlier, as he continues:

"I did mean it when I said 'never,' until the day when I changed my mind. But I really did for quite a few years, I meant it."

Last year, while speaking to Fandango, Jackman spoke about his return as the Adamantium Warrior along with Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool in the 2024 film. He was joined by Reynolds and director Shawn Levy.

In the interview, Jackson mentioned that even when he was definite about not playing the character again, the idea of Deadpool and Wolverine together was too juicy to walk past. He said:

"For Deadpool and Wolverine to come back together. I swear to you, when I said I was done, I really thought I was done. But in the back of my head, ever since I saw Deadpool, I was like, 'Those two characters together.' I knew it, I knew the fans wanted it ever since I put on the claws, people talked about these two. So, that had always been there, but I just knew."

His enthusiasm for playing the role is evident as he shared an anecdote, continuing:

"And I literally couldn't wait to arrive. As soon as I arrived, I rang Ryan [Reynolds]. And I just said, ‘Let’s do it.’ Like, I hadn’t rung my agent, no one. I had to ring my agent and said, ‘Oh, by the way, I have just committed to a movie.’"

Until the idea of these two heroes coming together was not conceived, it was perhaps natural for Hugh Jackman to believe that he would not return as the character. We all know that James Howlett met with a heart-wrenching ending in Logan.

But our decisions are also dependent on changing circumstances, and it was so heartwarming to witness Jackman as the blade-bearing warrior, that too with Deadpool. In the future, too, we never know if the actor will be returning as the superhero. We, too, like Jackman, could perhaps follow the 'never say never' mantra.
