General Hospital star Giovanni Mazza (Gio Palmieri) is in a new film that could be in a theater near you beginning September 12th.
Mazza appears in the movie Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake), a movie anthology that shows four intertwined tales of life at a lake in Western Michigan.
General Hospital's Gio is an actor and expert violinist
The movie debuted at the Sundance Festival in January. Sierra Falconer, the writer and director of the movie, was nominated for a jury prize at the elite festival.
The movie will open at the IFC Center in New York City on September 12th and then expand to other theaters nationwide.
The movie is sponsored by The Future of Film is Female organization, which promotes gender parity in the film industry. In the official tagline for the movie, “lives intertwine around Green Lake as a girl learns to sail, a boy fights for first chair, two sisters operate a bed-and-breakfast, and a fisherman is after the catch of his life.”
Mazza plays Enzo in the film. On his Instagram account, he promoted the trailer for Sunfish, which came out August 20th. Mazza appears briefly in the trailer, taking a swim in the water.
Mazza is an expert violinist, recording original music and performing at many professional sports events, and on General Hospital. According to his IMDB profile, his violin-playing skills come into play in the film, which features a music camp and orchestra in one of its subplots.
The movie was filmed in Traverse City, Michigan, before Mazza came to General Hospital. He posted about the film when it wrapped in August 2023, showing behind-the-scenes of himself with other actors, including Jim Kaplan, who, based on the trailer, plays the main character in the music storyline.
Mazza said in that post, “You (Sierra Falconer) are an incredible director and I can’t wait to see your vision on the big screens! It’s gonna be AMAZING! Wow! Everyone just connected instantly and we all had so much fun!! I’m so grateful to be apart of such a beautiful film and to have the best experience EVER!! More posts to come!”
In December, he posted about the film on Instagram to announce it was competing in Sundance, saying, “I’m so honored and grateful to have worked with the amazing @sierra.falconer and everyone in the cast and crew of this beautiful feature film. What a great experience to be a part of. Can’t wait for the World Premiere! It’s truly one of a kind.”

Mazza joined General Hospital in 2024 as a cousin of Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), and related to the Cerullos. He played the instrument at Brook Lynn’s wedding to Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), and in 2025 was revealed to be Brook Lynn’s son with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna).
