General Hospital star Kathleen Gati tackles a different kind of role

On General Hospital, Kathleen Gati has a lot of drama to juggle. Her character, Liesl Obrecht, has seen her two children, Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and Nathan West (Ryan Paevey), mysteriously come back from the dead. And her niece, Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen), is about to stand trial for shooting Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison). But that is not all Gati has been up to on-screen.

In other projects, Gati also embraces life-and-death drama. The General Hospital actor is in a new film that premiered in Europe and may be available to view in the United States in the near future.

The film is called Desperate Journey, and is set in Europe during World War II. On IMDB, it is described as “Set in a burlesque world of 1940s Paris, a man is forced to flee Vienna as Nazi hysteria takes hold.”

The film has young Danish star Lucas Lyngaard Tonnesen as the lead character, and also stars Ed Stoppard, Til Schweiger and Sienna Guillory.

Directed by Annabel Jankel, it is based on a true story. It is produced by Emblem Pictures.

In the trailer, which you can see below, the tagline says “In the darkest of times, love survives.” Gati is shown in a dark room at a table with two other actors, and one of them saying, “If we have a chance to get the boys out, we must take it,” showing the fear of the time when the Nazis were terrorizing Europe.

In an Instagram post promoting the movie, Gati showed a picture of that same scene. She said she worked mostly with Guillory and Stoppard.

The film premiered on November 28 in England and Ireland, and had a red carpet premiere event in London. The producers made several social media posts about the film, one with a lot of reviews of the film, and another with stars of the film talking about the movie at the premiere event.

Gati captioned her post, “Grateful to have played a role in this important @desperatejourneyfilm exquisitely directed by @annabeljankel and produced by @emblempictures @warrenderosa… Sadly could not be at the premiere in London this week as I’m working on other projects, but look forward to seeing it soon.”

Gati recently portrayed the wife of Kevin Dunn in the feature Yale, along with Rachael Harris and Caitlin McGee. Gati has appeared in Fear The Walking Dead: Flight 462, Arrow, and Being Mary Jane. She was also very popular for her two seasons on 24: Redemption as Anya Suvarov, the First Lady of Russia. Last year, she starred in an episode of the TV series S.W.A.T.

Gati has been on General Hospital since 2012, and recently celebrated her 13th anniversary on the show. She has been nominated twice for Daytime Emmys for her roles in the TV movie A Mermaid for Christmas, and the digital soap opera Winterthorne.
