BLACKPINK’s Jennie just hit another career milestone in the United States, doubling up on new certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The RIAA confirmed on Monday, August 25, that the K-pop star’s tracks like JENNIE and Mantra each surpassed 500,000 units sold, officially earning gold status. Both hit tunes are part of her debut full-length solo project, Ruby, released last March.
Mantra, which dropped ahead of the solo project, peaked at No. 98 on Billboard's Hot 100.
like JENNIE, which serves as the title track for Ruby, shot to No. 83 on the same chart.
The 15-tracked album also contains Seoul City, Starlight, Love Hangover (with Dominik Fike), ZEN, ExtraL (featuring Doechii), Start a War, Handlebars (alongside Dua Lipa), and more.
Meanwhile, these aren’t her first. The BLACKPINK member previously scored RIAA recognition with One of the Girls, her collaboration with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp from The Idol, where she also appeared. The song crossed into platinum territory last year.
"Absolutely in Seoul": BLACKPINK's Jennie becomes the face of the city
BLACKPINK’s Jennie's latest achievements come after taking on a new role this year — this time as the face of Seoul tourism.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Tourism Organization announced in late July that the K-pop star has been appointed as an honorary ambassador to promote the city.
A teaser was also released via YouTube, which has garnered over 30 million views. The project runs under the slogan “Absolutely in Seoul” and has rolled out two main promotional videos along with an interview.
The first video, titled “Daltokki” (which means “moon rabbit” in Korean folklore), follows the songstress as she visits cultural and lifestyle landmarks around the city, such as Gyeongbok Palace, Seongsu-dong, and Nodeul Island.
The second video, “Seoul City,” takes its name from a track on the artist's solo album Ruby and blends her music with cityscapes.
Jennie’s global reach adds weight to the tourism promotions: her debut full-length solo album, Ruby, ranking high on the Billboard 200, as well as her latest milestones in the RIAA with her hit tracks like JENNIE and Mantra.
Fresh off from touring with BLACKPINK bandmates (Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa), the SPOT hitmaker is taking some R&R before their DEADLINE world tour resumes in October.
