Charlie Kirk's murder suspect, Tyler Robinson, is reportedly not cooperating with authorities in the investigation. Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University on September 10 while he was holding his signature "Prove Me Wrong" debate event. On Friday morning, Utah Governor Spencer Cox held a news conference and shared that shooting suspect Tyler Robinson had been caught.
On Sunday morning, Governor Cox appeared on ABC News' This Week and shared the updates related to the case. During the interview, the host, Martha Raddatz, asked the Governor if Robinson had confessed to murdering the conservative activist. Replying to the question, the Governor said:
"He has not confessed to, to authorities. He is not cooperating, but all the people around him are cooperating. And I think that's very important."
Utah Governor provides more information on Tyler Robinson in the Charlie Kirk case
On September 13, The New York Times reported that after the FBI released images of the suspect to the public, someone asked Tyler Robinson if he had killed Charlie Kirk, to which Robinson replied that it was his “doppelgänger.” On Sunday morning, Raddatz asked the Utah Governor about these reported Discord chats.
"All we can confirm is that those conversations definitely were happening, and they did not believe it was actually him. It was, it was all joking until, until he, you know, until he admitted that it actually was him," the Governor replied.
ABC News reported that on Friday, a Discord spokesperson told them that no planning of Charlie Kirk's murder took place on their platform.
"[W]e identified a Discord account associated with the suspect but have found no evidence that the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence on Discord," the spokesperson told the outlet.
On Saturday, reports came that Tyler Robinson was allegedly in a relationship with a transgender partner with whom he was living. Reports suggested that Tyler Robinson was living with Lance Twiggs, who also helped the authorities in the Robinson's arrest by sharing some incriminating messages.
During his Sunday appearance on This Week, Governor Cox confirmed it, adding that Twiggs has been cooperating with the investigation.
"There were reports yesterday that we can confirm that his roommate was indeed a boyfriend who is transitioning from male to female. That’s the information that the FBI had mentioned yesterday. We can confirm that as well and that he is cooperating with authorities as well," the Utah Governor said.
During the interview, the governor said that investigators were working to gather evidence and that more details would emerge on Tuesday when the court filing would take place.
