Online streamer Emily Beth Schunk, known as Emiru, was allegedly assaulted during a TwitchCon session in San Diego. Videos circulating on social media show a man approaching her on stage and forcefully kissing her. Event security quickly intervened and removed the individual from the area.

Following the incident, an X user @feinmadeit posted a statement by Twitch, where it was mentioned that necessary action has been taken against the person responsible for the incident. Meanwhile, social media users had mixed reactions to the news, as one X user commented:

“There's no understanding. This shouldn't happen and you just let the guy walk.”

Others raised security concerns at the event. A netizen wrote:

“If you remove someone's personal security and dont provide a safe event space they are very much liable. All guests and attendees should be safe. Twitch is represented by a billion dollar company theres legit no excuse for this to keep happening year after year.”

In similar lines, an online commentator wrote that the security at the event should have taken immediate action after the alleged assault. They explained:

“If I am not mistaken then the guy pushing the attacker away is personal security hired by Emiru. The fault here in my opinion is the "con security" that allowed attacker to walk over from the booth next to Emiru instead of leaving out through the back as he should have.”

Another social media user asked:

“removed from their position? u mean they aren't banned from the venue/event? they're part of staff????”

A netizen criticized the incident, writing:

“Absolutely pathetic, what was with all this talk about have “armed” security. What an absolute joke.”

What did the statement from Twitch following Emiru’s alleged assault say?

As seen in @feinmadeit’s X post, Twitch said they knew about what happened to Emiru during TwitchCon and wanted everyone to know they took her safety seriously. They also shared that the person who caused the problem was immediately removed from their job. The statement continued:

“We're conducting a full review of our security protocols and are implementing stronger on-sit safety measures to ensure TwitchCon remains a safe and positive environment for everyone creators, fans, and staff alike. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to improve the TwitchCon experience moving forward.”

Following the incident, streamer Asmongold reacted to the video on X, writing:

“I think this will be (should be) the last year of Twitchcon.”

When one X user commented that women should not be allowed to the event, Asmongold said he had tried to warn others before, but was accused of blaming the victim. He added that Twitch was at fault because its weak security made it easy for something like this to happen.
