The ad agency behind Astronomer’s recent video featuring Gwyneth Paltrow is Maximum Effort. On July 28, the agency shared an X post, writing:
“Thank you for your interest in Maximum Effort, @astronomerio! We'll now get back to what we do best: motion pictures with Hugh Jackman, Fastvertising and Wrexham football. We'll leave data workflow automation toGwyneth PaAstronomer.”
According to Business Insider, Maximum Effort was launched in 2018 in partnership with George Dewey. The company is involved in making shows, advertisements, and investments, among other engagements.
However, these affairs are not always disclosed to the public. In 2022, while speaking about his marketing strategies with The Washington Post, Reynolds said:
“Most of what we do really is necessity being the mother of invention. A lot of times we’re working really quickly, working with limited budgets, but we’re also acknowledging and playing with the cultural landscape. So, that’s a huge part of what we do, we try to create marketing that’s moving at the exact same speed as culture is.”
Astronomer’s CEO, Pete DeJoy, shared a LinkedIn post, writing that he always believed tough times reveal a person’s true character. He shared that last week, the team showed great support for their customers, and he felt thankful to work with such caring and hardworking people. DeJoy also wrote:
“I’d also like to thank the team at Maximum Effort for their remarkable work with our very temporary spokesperson. As Gwyneth Paltrow said, now it's time for us to return to what we do best: delivering game-changing results for our customers. We look forward to what this next chapter holds for Astronomer.”
According to The New York Times, Gwyneth Paltrow was hired as a temporary spokesperson for the company. This happened just days after its former CEO, Andy Byron, was spotted at a Coldplay concert with another woman from the company.
What did Gwyneth Paltrow say in the video posted by Astronomer?
On July 26, the company shared a one-minute video featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, in which she thanked viewers for their interest in the company. She said:
“I have been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300+ employees at Astronomer. Astronomer has gotten a lot of questions over the last few days and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.”
Gwyneth Paltrow said that Astronomer was the best-known place to use Apache Airflow because it helps run big data, machine learning, and AI tasks smoothly. She said she was happy that more people were becoming interested in automating data tasks.
A question flashed on the screen, inquiring about the current state of the company’s social media team. Gwyneth Paltrow replied that openings were available for their event called Beyond Analytics, scheduled for September 2025. She also added:
“We will now be returning to what we do best: delivering game-changing results for our customers.”
After the Coldplay concert incident, the company released a statement saying they had always followed the same values and rules since the beginning, and that leaders were expected to act responsibly.
The company’s board started a formal investigation and promised to share more updates soon. They also said Alyssa Stoddard wasn’t at the event, no other workers appeared in the video. Additionally, Andy Byron hadn’t made any statement, even though some reports wrongly claimed he had.
