What is Marko Monroe's 'Moonbubu'? Designer debuts Labubu-inspired creation at 2025 MTV VMAs red carpet

Marko Monroe might be setting another trend with the ‘Moonbubu.’ The designer behind the Labubu custom wear showed off his latest creation on the red carpet of the VMAs 2025: a Labubu dressed in glittering silver. The design is an ode to the VMAs’ silver Moonman.

The ‘Moonbubu’ mimics the astronaut’s outfit down to the spacesuit and the MTV flag. Monroe is one of the creative minds at the House of Avalon and is the brain behind some of the stunning Labubu pieces created for Lady Gaga, the cast of Wednesday, Marc Jacobs, and Lisa.

Marko Monroe has become Hollywood’s go-to guy for custom Labubu wears. In an August 13, 2025, interview with W Magazine, Marko recounted how he got his first Labubu and fell in love with it:

"He opened the box and I was like, ‘Oh no, no, no, that has got to be for me. I fell in love instantly and started carrying mine around everywhere.”

He described Labubus as both creepy and cute:

“They’re this perfect balance of creepy and cute,” he says. “But what I love most is that it is a blank canvas you can dress up however you want.”

Marko Monroe expressed his joy at bringing his client’s ideas to life in a fun way. He revealed how his Labubu design business came to be:

"I have three dachshunds, and I wanted a dachshund Labubu. So I started playing around and made it. It got such a great response [on TikTok] that I made another, which also got a great response and continued from there."

The Labubu was created by Kasing Lung and appeared as a character in The Monster's Storybook. Four years later, China’s Pop Mart made the Labubu character a collectible toy and became an instant hit amongst celebrities and fashionistas. Pop Mart’s Head of IP described the Labubu as a statement of individual style.
