Squid Game Season 3 is coming to Netflix on June 27, 2025, and will be the end of Gi-hun’s story. However, what that ending holds remains unknown to the many fans eagerly awaiting the season.

After the end of Season 2, there have been many speculations and theories about what will happen in Squid Game Season 3. From character deaths to the new games that the surviving players will play, many theories have emerged on the internet. Furthermore, the release of the Season 3 trailer fueled many of these theories, such as Player 246’s survival, who we saw being shot in season 2. Besides this, many more theories are circling the upcoming season of Squid Game.

Here’s a list of 5 of the most interesting Squid Game Season 3 theories that you should definitely keep an eye on.

5 Squid Game Season 3 theories you should definitely keep an eye on

5) Gi-hun becomes the Front Man

This theory has circulated since the end of Season 1. Gi-hun’s eagerness, which turned into fear and later grief in season 1, then again in season 2, came back with a determined look to destroy the system, but grief and guilt found their way into him. The difference between the seasons is the Front man’s involvement in making Gi-hun lose hope and belief in humanity in Season 2, which will continue in Season 3.

Therefore, many fans think that Gi-hun might end up just like the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who is also a winner of the games himself. After losing everyone again in Squid Game Season 3, Gi-hun might give up his beliefs, just like In-ho/Front Man, and take his place. Since it's just a theory, we have to wait for the final season to arrive to know Gi-hun’s fate at the end.

4) The truth about the square guards

This theory is basically based on the trend that the show has been following since season 1. In the first season, we got a glimpse of the life of the pink guards with circle masks, and in season 2, we saw what the guards with triangle marks do with No-eul’s quest of finding her daughter.

This leaves only the square guards, who give orders to the other guards. Therefore, it is speculated that Squid Game season 3 will reveal more about the square guards with a story about one of them finally realizing what they are doing is wrong, or perhaps a more sinister story.

3) Sea Captain Park’s identity

At the end of season 2, it was revealed that Captain Park was not helping Jun-ho and the others find the Island but to stop them from reaching there. However, it was not revealed why he was trying to stop Jun-ho from finding the Island. Due to which a theory emerged that Captain Park, played by Oh Dal-su, is actually the one who helps smuggle the organs taken from the dead players.

While it is believable, we still have to wait for the final season to know if this theory turns out to be true.

2) Kim Jun-hee’s death

Since the premiere of Season 2, we have all been terrified of what will come next for Jun-hee and her unborn child. However, the sound of a baby crying in the Season 3 trailer provided a spoiler that the child might be born in the game, but this also led to many theories about Jun-hee’s fate.

It has been a long-standing theory that Jun-hee might not survive the game, and this theory became more popular after the poster release of the characters of season 3. Jun-hee’s character poster included a drawing of an octopus, which led fans to speculate that Jun-hee, just like the female octopuses, who die shortly after giving birth, will die after childbirth. Will it be due to a game or some other reason? We will have to wait for the premiere of Squid Game Season 3 to find out.

1) The game might be bigger than Gi-hun realized

While there are several wild theories surrounding Squid Game Season 3, this has to be the wildest if it turns out to be true. There is this widely popular theory that Gi-hun, at last, might be able to destroy the squid game at the end of the final season. But that might not be the end of the game at all.

It is speculated that Gi-hun will find out that he has only destroyed the game in Korea, but the game has been taking place all over the world, which might align with the concept of the show about humanity and the nature of people, not just in Korea, but a global concern. This is how the fans think Squid Game will end; however, it is also just speculation.

Don't forget to watch Squid Game Season 3 on June 27, 2025, on Netflix to find out if any of the theories turned out to be true. Meanwhile, you can binge the other two seasons available on Netflix until the new season arrives.
