ABC's popular procedural show, 9-1-1, delves into the chaotic professional and personal lives of the first responders (firefighters, paramedics, and police officers) in L.A.
Created by the trio Ryan Murphy, Tim Minear, and Brad Falchuk, this show features a star-studded cast including Angela Bassett, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, and more. Troy Winbush initially appeared as Nathaniel Greene, the biological father of Denny Wilson (Hen and Karen Wilson's son)in 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 5 titled Awful People. After a gap of almost four years, he reappeared for two episodes in season 6. Although his last appearance hinted that his story might not be just over yet.
Troy Winbush, the actor behind Nathaniel's character, has opened up about the possibility of his potential return in the series, which was recently renewed for season 9. Winbush told ScreenRant,
"You know what? Time will tell. A great bunch of guys, I got out of Chicago right before winter hit, the last episode I did. He's still around, so who knows?
Winbush also shared his experience of filming for the popular procedural show and seemed hopeful for a potential comeback for Nathaniel Greene. He said,
It was really fun doing that show and to be amongst a group of guys who are welcoming, who were welcoming. The time that I spent there was actually fun. Who knows what the future may hold with that?"
Could Nathaniel Greene return in 9-1-1 Season 9?
9-1-1 Season 8 ending almost felt like a series' finale- it followed the aftermath of the death of their beloved captain, Bobby Nash (Peter Krause). For instance, Buck and Eddie initially decided to leave 118. Elsewhere, Athena decided to sell the house and quietly watched a young couple enter it during the open house. While Chim, the new captain, tried to boost the team's morale while urging them to uphold Captain Bobby's legacy and his speech made Eddie and Buck change their decision. Meanwhile, Chim and Maddie named their newborn Bobby in honour of their deceased captain, and on the other hand, Hen and Karen were finally able to adopt Mara.
With the show returning for a ninth season, it would be interesting to see some old familiar faces, such as Nathaniel Greene, back. Especially exploring the complex father-son bond between Nathaniel and Denny would be an interesting plot. Denny, being a pivotal character of the series, it would make sense if he could have a future plot involving his biological father, Nathaniel.
Troy Winbush, the 55-year-old actor, well known for his roles in The Cosby Show, Law & Order, Tremors, and recently Suits: LA, is married to Monica Dozier and has two children. Even though there isn't an official release date for season 9, it is expected to release in Fall 2025 on ABC. It is also expected to follow a similar release schedule with new episodes dropping every Thursday.
