The new doctor in town isn't here to support you! It's all heart, but Best Medicine is starting to look like Dr. House. A series with small-town charm and romance is based on the long-running British show, Doc Martin. Josh Charles, who is famous thanks to The Handmaid's Tale and The Good Wife, leads it. Fox has now said that Best Medicine is going to be the network's first one-hour comedy in almost ten years and will air in January 2026. Early looks at its teaser suggest that it's a recipe for mayhem in a seaside Maine village. So read on to know all about the show. What is Best Medicine about?Josh Charles plays Dr. Martin Best, a Boston surgeon who leaves the city to work as a GP in a fishing town where he spent his childhood summers. Why? He would prefer not to talk about intimacy issues and a phobia. Martin is frank and almost rude in how he provides medical care. In the teaser, he declares, "I don't care about silly little festivals or gossip. I'm here to work." Yet even the most stubborn soul can be cooled by life in Port Wenn's American cousin!Timeless actress Abigail Spencer plays Louisa Gavin, a teacher who has a falling out with Martin but finds it hard to stop thinking about him. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Liz Tuccillo, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite are the executive producers behind the camera. Crowdy and Braithwaite had also led the original Doc Martin through ten seasons and an additional television film. Michael Thorn, president of Fox Entertainment, has spoken of the network's excitement. "[The crew has] done a terrific job adapting this signature character for the Fox audience, especially in casting (...) Josh Charles as our lead." Best Medicine could be the ideal midwinter cure for whatever has been disturbing network TV because of its wit and fish-out-of-water scenes.Best Medicine will premiere on Fox in January 2026.
