Time-travel K-dramas with a unique twist have always been fan-favorites, and tvN's Bon Appétit, Your Majesty is no exception. It's not just about a chef from 2025 falling into the Joseon era, but also focuses on how food can change people if made with full determination and heart.
This is what Yoona's Yeon Ji-young explains in the second episode of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. When Governor Hong's son asks if she could still make good food with insufficient ingredients, Ji-young says:
"Using the best ingredients doesn't always mean you make the best dish."
She believes that food must be prepared with care so that the person tasting it can enjoy and recognize the efforts of the cook. Since she's from the 21st century, Ji-young never hesitates to speak her mind.
In Episode 2, Yeon Ji-young even worked hard to ensure that she and the other captured women were freed from Chaehong. The episode is also filled with comedic and heartfelt moments, so let's dive into the detailed recap.
Bon Appétit, Your Majesty Episode 2 recap: Ji-young uses a unique technique while cooking food

Titled "Course N° 2 Sous Vide Cuisine", Episode 2 of Bon Appétit, Your Majesty starts with Ji-young and Gil-geum being taken by the Chaehong guards. They are taken to Governor Hong's residence, where women are selected for Chaehong based on their age and beauty.
After being locked up, Ji-young finally accepts the fact that she has time-traveled and must go back. Soon, the guards begin diving women, and Ji-young is rejected to be presented as she reveals herself to be 27 years old. Gil-geum then pretends to be 27 as well to prevent Chahong.
The rejected women are then sent to the kitchen to prepare food for the royal guests. But before starting, Ji-young places a condition: The women and she must be freed from Chaehong if they succeed in impressing the guests, or else she will agree to give up on her life.
As they reach an agreement, Ji-young starts preparation. At first, she's worried about not having an ingredient for the main dish, but thanks to Gil-geum, who found fresh meat hidden inside a container. However, the meat is quite thick, so Ji-young has to give it deep thought before beginning.
Drawing on her modern-day culinary knowledge, she invents a rough version of the sous vide method to tenderise the beef, showing how her experience from the future helps her survive in the past. Everyone is impressed by how skilled Ji-young is.
She guides the women to prepare other things required for the dish, and they learn from him. Finally, Ji-young's steak is ready to serve, and its plating itself tells how carefully she prepared it.
