Netflix's Nobody Wants This is back with a new season that has captured everyone's attention. The new season focuses on the central conflict of Joanne's conversion to Judaism to be with Noah.

However, their relationship is not the only focus in Season 2, as another couple, Esther and Sasha, are in the middle of a dwindling marriage. While talking to Deadline, Timothy Simons, who plays Sasha, explained how his character wanted to try and give another chance to their failing marriage. He stated:

"For Sasha specifically, I think it’s about him trying to recommit himself to the relationship and knowing that he hurt Esther’s feelings."

On the other hand, Esther realised that she was the only one among the other characters who was feeling trapped in her relationship. Jackie Tohn, who plays Esther, shared this with Deadline and said:

"She’s coming to the realization, in and out of the relationship, that everybody else is having fun, and she’s just this almost self-imposed stick in the mud."

At the end of Nobody Wants This Season 2, Joanne and Noah rekindle their relationship, and Esther wants to separate from Sasha to explore more about herself.

More on this in our story.

Nobody Wants This Season 2: Jackie Tohn and Timothy Simons talk about their characters' marriage

While Joanne was questioning whether to convert to Judaism in Nobody Wants This Season 2, Esther was dealing with marriage troubles and questioning herself on why she wasn't having fun like the others. Sasha and Esther married young due to Esther being pregnant with Miriam.

However, as their daughter grew up, Esther began to question the relevance of their relationship. She was not happy and started questioning if she would have chosen this relationship if she were not pregnant.

To add to her previous comment, she said:

"I think that opens something in her brain where she’s like, ‘Is this the relationship I love?’ Esther and Sasha love each other, there’s no question. But is this the relationship I would have chosen if we didn’t get pregnant and then just start a life together without really thinking about it?"

Therefore, in the finale of Season 2 of Nobody Wants This, Esther breaks off her marriage with Noah by telling him that she wants some time to herself, to wind down from the uptight life she has been living. In the Deadline interview, Tohn shared her character's decision to end the marriage and said:

"She’s trying to sow her oats a little and do weird, bad dancing alone in a kitchen and, just, I don’t know, get this anvil off her shoulders."

Even though Sasha wants to try to save their relationship, he agrees to Esther's decision to separate, respectfully. He agrees to give her space and tells her that he will be waiting for her whenever she thinks of coming back to him. Simons shared what his character might have been thinking when he came to know about Esther's decision and stated:

"Sasha can be misguided, but fundamentally, he’s good person and a good partner, and I think he goes through that idea of, like, ‘Maybe I was trying to hold on to things too tight, or solve it in the wrong ways.’ It’s probably that that brings him there."

He further added:

"Ultimately, I do think that he understands how great that relationship can be and just sort of blindly being like, ‘Yeah, all right, I guess that’s over,’ isn’t a mature and healthy thing to do."

At the end of Nobody Wants This Season 2, all the female characters make big decisions in their lives, focusing on their own needs rather than their partners. Joanne decides to convert for herself, Morgan breaks off her engagement to Dr. Andy, and Esther decides to break off her marriage with Sasha to focus on herself.
