Netflix's Nobody Wants This Season 2 just dropped on the streaming platform and has quickly gained everyone's attention. While Season 1 focused on whether Adam Brody's character, Noah, would be able to accept Joanne irrespective of her being agnostic, Season 2 focused on Kristen Bell's character, Joanne, and whether she would convert to Judaism or not.

In the Netflix interview, Bell and creator Erin Foster talked about Joanne's views and her doubts on whether she should convert and become Jewish or not. Bell shared that the relationship between the two would have only worked if Joanne converted to Judaism, but neither Noah nor Joanne wants to do it just for the sake of saving their relationship. This was the main issue between Noah and Joanne in Nobody Wants This Season 2.

In the same interview, Foster further adds and shares how Joanne had been dealing with questions about whether she wants to do it or not, and in the finale, she finally realizes that Judaism is the answer to all her questions. Therefore, Joanne goes back to Noah after making up her mind to convert at the end of Season 2.

Nobody Wants This Season 2: Creator Erin Foster shares her thoughts on Joanne's conversion to Judaism and her future with Noah

The biggest question in Nobody Wants This Season 2 was whether Joanne would convert. Initially, it seemed like Joanne would not take this big step, which resulted in her and Noah's breakup. However, that was not the end of their love story.

Conversion was a big topic in Joanne's life as an agnostic woman who is unsure of the existence of god. While talking to Netflix, creator Erin Foster shared that in most of Season 2, Joanne was plagued with questions about whether she can be Jewish. And in the finale, she finally realises how Judaism will give her everything, such as a 'purpose and structure' in life, that she has always wanted, and decides to convert. Foster stated:

"Do I want to be Jewish? Can I be Jewish? Am I Jewish? Should I fake it? She’s trying so hard to see it that she can’t see it. She’s yearning for something to give her structure, purpose, boundaries, values, and traditions. Judaism can give her all of those things."

In Nobody Wants This Season 2, while wrestling with these questions, she also finds herself moving toward religion due to her own curiosity, without even realizing it, which Noah also points out in one episode. On this aspect, Foster quips:

"She’s enjoying all these different things about Judaism. But she keeps thinking God is going to just come down from the sky and be like, ‘And now you’re Jewish!’"

In the end, with Esther's help, Joanne finally realises what she wants and goes to look for Noah. However, as shared by Foster, it wasn't religion that brought Joanne and Noah together at the end. Noah was ready to accept Joanne, even if she did not convert to Judaism. On the other hand, Joanne decided to convert for herself. She stated:

"We wanted to end on romance, not religion. The romance is him saying, ‘I don’t care what you are, I’m choosing you.’ We don’t really need to hear her saying, ‘Oh, my God, you’re not going to believe this. I’ve been Jewish this entire time,’ because we know that’s about to happen."

Therefore, religion and faith might have been important topics in Joanne and Noah's relationship, but ultimately, it was the love that they both had for each other that brought them together at the end of Nobody Wants This Season 2. Along with learning how to communicate, the couple solved a major issue at the end of Season 2, ensuring a healthy relationship between Joanne and Noah.
