Marketing is in big swing for Peacemaker Season 2 as the raunchy DCU series approaches its August 21, 2025, release date. Select members of the press and influencers have been given the first five episodes of the season, and red carpet premieres have been scheduled. It is in one of these many premieres that we may have learned about the future of the franchise.
On August 14, 2025, ExtraTV uploaded a video on its YouTube channel in which they interviewed James Gunn. The filmmaker, while teasing the future of the DCU, revealed that portions of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker Season 1 are canon to the DCU. Thus, we have to wait till Thursday to learn which portions of The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season 1 these are.
There, he even revealed that John Cena might reprise his DCU character in the future, but did not reveal in which project, though.
What did James Gunn say about the possibility of Peacemaker's return?
When asked about the DCU and the possibilities of Christopher Smith returning in the cinematic universe. To this, Gunn responded positively to the reporter, saying:
"This is part of the Tighty Whitey trilogy. It's known as that. Between The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker season 1, and Peacemaker season 2. Are we going to make it a quadrilogy? Probably. We'll see."
Based on this, we can ascertain that some things from The Suicide Squad and season 1 of the HBO Max DCU show are canonical to the DCU, too. So, we have to wait and see if Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn is canon or not. Robbie did appear in Gunn's The Suicide Squad, and the filmmaker last week gave an ambiguous answer when asked about Margot Robbie reprising her role.
Thus, the best we can do for now is wait and see how things play out. But things couldn't be more exciting for the DCU as James Gunn received several exciting details regarding episodes 6, 7, and 8 of the acclaimed HBO show.
James Gunn hyped up the final three episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 for this possible reason:
As mentioned before, the first five episodes of the show were given to some journalists and social media influencers. However, only the first five episodes of the series have been provided. If they wanted to know what happens next after the fifth episode, they would be required to watch the rest of the series with everyone else, i.e., their respective release dates.
Furthermore, Gunn hyped up the last three episodes, saying:
"It could mean they're terrible. That is one option. Or it could mean that there's a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes. And even though I'm sending the first five to a select few, things still get out as you know. Things got out already. You know, people who want to search can be spoiled on purpose, but I really don't want what's in those last three episodes to be spoiled. And so I'm keeping them close to the chest. I won't even let my publicist see them. That's the god's honest truth"
The Superman filmmaker further added:
"I will also say, six and eight may be my favorite things I've done, like, of all time. It's like some of my favorite stuff ever."
Are you excited for the second season? If so, catch it on HBO Max this Thursday.
