The Boys Season 5 completed filming on June 21, 2025, and days before the completion of production, actor Jensen Ackles was interviewed by CBR. In the interview, the actor revealed that he had completed his portion of filming on June 10, 2025. Approximately a week later, the entire season wrapped up production.

Ackles' revelation has fans wondering if the actor provided a hint at a possible release window for the popular Prime Video superhero series. The answer to the question is complicated. While the streaming date or even the release window for The Boys Season 5 remains unknown for now, we know it will probably release some time in 2026.

What did The Boys Season 5's Jensen Ackles say?

The CBR interview of Jensen Ackles was part of a promotional tour for the upcoming Prime Video series, Countdown. There, Ackles touched upon the streamer's acclaimed superhero series, The Boys, Season 5. The actor made his debut in the superhero series back in Season 3, where he played Soldier Boy/Ben, one of the antagonists.

Soldier Boy was seemingly defeated in The Boys Season 3 finale when Billy Butcher, who was allied with him, turned on him when Ryan was in danger. However, the post-credit scene of the Season 4 finale did set up Soldier Boy's role in The Boys Season 5. The series is expected to be released sometime in 2026, as Karl Urban confirmed through a July 2024 Instagram post.

Jensen Ackles may have confirmed a 2026 release for The Boys Season 5 when he said:

"I just finished The Boys on Tuesday, [June 9], and I think I've got all my stuff done. But I don't know. You never know. They might have to bring me back for some other stuff."

Considering that The Boys Season 5 has completed its production, we can expect that the upcoming season might release in 2026. We might get information on the release window at Comic-Con next month.

What is Soldier Boy's role in Season 5?

At the 2024 SDCC, it was revealed that Soldier Boy was indeed returning to play a key role in the fifth season, as set up in the post-credit scene of the Season 4 finale. After that panel, the showrunner was interviewed by Gamesradar+ about Soldier Boy's role in the fifth season. Teasing Soldier Boy's role, Eric Kripke said:

"You know, what we realized was we really hadn't explored the father-son relationship much between Homelander and Soldier Boy. There's a lot of material there, how soldier boy feels about Homelander, how Homelander feels about his dad, and so we really wanted to dig into that relationship."

Kripke went back to the Season 3 finale moment where Billy Butcher turned on Soldier Boy when the latter was about to attack Ryan. Revealing that Homelander and Soldier Boy will be teaming up, Kriple said that the latter wants to settle scores with Butcher. He elaborated:

"Soldier Boy is really driven to kill Butcher after Butcher betrayed him in season 3. So he's just an excellent antagonist, to switch sides and basically, you know, to be with the supes."
