What happened in Episode 1 of Ghosts Season 5?
In Episode 1 of Ghosts Season 5, Jay was preparing for his death due to the devil's contract. However, he then gets the idea of using the ghost trap. He first plans to let Sam capture his soul and trap it in, but later decides to trap Elias in it.
With Alberta's help, Elias is convinced to change from his solid form to his ghost form and is captured in the ghost trap. However, Jay's plan fails when they discover that Carol was inside the ghost trap, taking a nap in the reclining chair. Therefore, to get Carol out of the trap, they also had to release Elias from it.
The next plan to save Jay's life was for one of the ghosts to take his place. First, Patience takes Jay's place but decides against it at the last moment. Pete is the next one who decide to sacrifice himself for his best friend.
However, at the end of Episode 1 of Season 5, Carol, Pete's widow, takes his place and sacrifices herself to save Jay's life and not let Pete go to Hell. Her one selfless act of sacrifice sends her off to Heaven and not hell, making her story end on a bittersweet note.
