The fourth IT: Welcome to Derry episode set up an action-packed and exciting fifth entry. Dick Hallorann learn of Pennywise's origin and location in the last ten minutes of episode four. The episode's last frame shows the Well House in Derry. Thus, it seems that the next episode, which is titled "Neibolt Street", may finally see the return of Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise the Clown.

The show hasn't shown IT's Pennywise the Clown form, but we have seen his other forms. Barbara and Andy Muschietti addressed the lack of Pennywise in The Hollywood Reporter interview, which was published after the IT: Welcome to Derry premiere. Andy Muschietti was the first to talk. He promised that fans will see Pennywise more in the second half of the HBO series:

"We did “less is more” for half the show, but then we did “more is more.” The idea behind the delayed appearance is the build up of expectation. The audience doesn’t know that they want it, but I think it creates a very special feeling. When and where the clown is going to appear was a game that I wanted to play with the audience."

Then, Barbara Muschietti said:

"Being a shape-shifter, Pennywise looms large. If you dissect the movies, Pennywise is not in the movies that much, but people feel It a lot when he is on camera. The last thing we want is to have an audience get comfortable with Pennywise. We don’t want anybody to get used to his image. He’s unpredictable. He strikes whenever he feels like it."

Pointing out that Pennywise is not the only form that IT took, Andy went on to add:

"And normally, the misconception is that “It” can only be one thing, one creature at a time. But it’s part of the canon, even in the book, that he creates hallucinations. He creates collective creatures — like when he became the piranha, right? That’s a flock of creatures."

The IT: Welcome to Derry Midseason Trailer is action-packed:

HBO officially released the midseason trailer right after the fourth episode aired on Sunday, November 16, 2025. At the 0:37 second mark in the trailer, we see some uniformed soldiers and an unidentifiable character (probably Rose), entering the Well House in Neibolt Street. Which is why the fifth IT: Welcome to Derry episode is also titled "Neibolt Street".

Fans believe that the character of Ingrid is also Pennywise:

Madeleine Stowe's character, Ingrid, was introduced in the third IT: Welcome to Derry episode "Now You See It". We see very little of her in the third episode, but she seems to be the only kind presence working in Juniper Hill Asylum. She again appears in the fourth episode for very little, but it seems that she believes Lilly about these disappearances.

Which is why fans believe that "Ingrid" might be a form of Pennywise. Moreover, her second name has not been revealed yet. This is why they theorize that Ingrid's last name is Kersh. Welcome to Derry introduced Stan Kersh, a shop owner, in a previous episode. This name is significant because Pennywise takes the form of a woman named "Mrs. Kersh" in 2019's IT Chapter Two.

This fan theory states that both Stan Kersh and Ingrid were killed by Pennywise long before the 1960s, and he is using their forms to manipulate Lilly and Charlotte Hanlon.

Four episodes of IT: Welcome to Derry are available on HBO Max for now, with he fifth one scheduled to air on November 23, 2025.
