Malin Åkerman is captivating the audience with her performance as Margo Banks in The Hunting Wives. The series, an adaptation of May Cobb’s novel of the same name, arrived on Netflix recently and is already rising through streaming charts.

Margo is particularly in the spotlight in the show, as she is the lead of the titular elite club of housewives. While the character is becoming famous for her gray shade, Malin Åkerman has revealed that Paramount Network’s hit series Yellowstone inspired her to take up the role of Margo.

In a recent interview, the actress explained that she was fascinated with the character of Beth Dutton from Yellowstone, who is known to be a strong and fierce woman. When Åkerman got the opportunity to play an equally fierce character in The Hunting Wives, she decided to grab it.

The Hunting Wives’ Malin Åkerman wanted to play a strong character like Yellowstone’s Beth Dutton

Malin Åkerman recently had a conversation with Variety, where she opened up about how ever since she saw Beth Dutton in Yellowstone, she wanted to play a role like that. When she was offered Margo’s role in The Hunting Wives, she felt the character was as bold as Beth but at the same time a bit more dramatic, which made it even more fun to play. She said:

“I was so enamored with Beth Dutton from ‘Yellowstone,’ and just thought, ‘Wow, what a character, and what a fierce character to play. And then this came along and I went, ‘Yep, this’ll work. I can do this one.’ This is a bit more soapy, but just so much fun to play.”

In Yellowstone, Beth is the daughter of the lead, John Dutton, who carries forward her father’s legacy after his death and also avenges his murder at the hands of her adoptive brother. On the other hand, in The Hunting Wives, Margo Banks is an elite woman and is the leader of the socialite group that targets Sophie O'Neil, a woman who recently moved to their town.

During the interview, Åkerman also talked about the theme of the Netflix series and how it has opened doors for conversations among the audience:

“It feels very cliquey. And the things that people put importance on, the backstabbing that goes on, and the hypocrisy — you have all these churchgoers who really are not leading by example when it comes to what the church stands for.”
“So, we will see what people think, but I definitely loved that we had all points of view coming at us, and leaving it open for conversation and consideration of what people feel is right or wrong.”

Apart from Åkerman, the show stars Brittany Snow as Sophie O'Neil, Jaime Ray Newman as Callie, Katie Lowes as Jill, Evan Jonigkeit as Graham O'Neil, George Ferrier as Brad, Dermot Mulroney as Jed Banks, Madison Wolfe as Abby, Chrissy Metz as Starr, Chosen Jacobs as Jamie, and Branton Box as Sheriff Jonny. Åkerman’s other television credits include the shows Trophy Wife, Billions, Childrens Hospital, and The Comeback.

The Hunting Wives is now streaming on Netflix, while Yellowstone is available to stream on Peacock.
