Fans learned more about the upcoming Vision Quest at the NYCC panel this week. The upcoming Marvel series headlined by Vision, releasing in 2026, features the return of James Spader's Ultron. But the trailer shown exclusively to attendees at NYCC showed Ultron and several other robotic characters from the MCU in human form.

This has fans across the world, who haven't seen the trailer yet, excited. The Marvel series, showrun by Terry Matalas, has fans excited as the prolific writer has won over fans with his work in 12 Monkeys and Star Trek: Picard, Seasons 2 and 3. Thus, expectations are quite high for Vision Quest. As mentioned earlier, several robotic characters from the MCU are in human form.

That includes DUM-E and DUM-U, both of which were last seen in live action, back in 2013's Iron Man 3.

Marvel's Vision Quest: Who are DUM-E and DUM-U?

We meet DUM-E and DUM-U as robots with claws all the way back in 2008's Iron Man. They are a pair of robots with claws that Tony keeps around, as they are his earliest creations. While Tony is mean towards them, and he threatens to dismantle them, he never does so, probably due to sentimentality.

The last time we saw DUM-E and DUM-U was in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, as Peter Parker webs up Norman Osborne's hand on one of them. Now, we may learn about these robots in Vision Quest, as Henry Lewis is portraying DUM-E in human form, and Jonathan Sayer will be playing DUM-U.

What do we know about Vision Quest?

The upcoming series will pick up right where the WandaVision finale left off: the "White Vision" trying to connect the dots after Red Vision (a representation of Wanda's hope) returned his memories. It should be noted that the "White Vision" is the physical body of Vision, while the red one in WandaVision was just a representation of Wanda's feelings.

S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division) had resurrected Vision, and he is dubbed "White Vision". He is first ordered to kill Wanda, but a fight with the Red Vision inside the Hex, where the former is given his memories. After receiving the memories, White Vision flies off, which is still one of the debated topics of the WandaVision finale.

Now, the upcoming Vision series is set to pick up right where WandaVision ended things with the White Vision flying off from the Hex. Vision actor Paul Bettany said this at the NYCC panel:

“What’s different about Vision right now is that Red Vision gave Vision all of his memories, including the memories from within the Hex. But White Vision is having real difficulty connecting to them. So he has the memories, but he doesn’t have the emotions and the feelings, and I think that’s what the journey is. White Vision’s journey during the show is about his attempt to connect to those memories and who he was… but with lasers!”

The Vision Quest trailer also confirmed that Ruaridh Mollica is playing Thomas Shepherd/Speed, who is reincarnated Tommy Maximoff, Billy Maximoff's twin brother. Marvel Television Head Brad Winderbaum was asked if the Vision series would play with different genres like WandaVision. To this, Winderbaum responded:

“The less we say, the better. But what I will say about Terry's vision for the show is that he knows the lore. So if you've been following the MCU all these years, you're going to be very, very, very rewarded.”

One of the returning characters that we know is actor Faran Tahir's Ten Rings operative Raza in 2008's Iron Man, the very first Marvel Cinematic Universe project.

Marvel's upcoming series, Vision Quest, is releasing sometime in 2026. We don't have a release window as of now. Until then, re-watch WandaVision and Agatha All Along on Disney+ as the Vision series has been described as the final chapter of what Marvel has dubbed the "WandaVision Trilogy".
