HBO Max’s Harry Potter series adaptation entered its filming phase in July 2025, with a brand-new ensemble cast. With the production in full swing, the faithful fans, or the Potterheads, are offered new news about the upcoming series based on the story of the boy who lived.
The latest news comes from Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. Collider has reported that Zaslav has promised to give a faithful adaptation of the J.K. Rowling novels with a ten-year run for the HBO Max series, which will surely keep the Potterheads satisfied for a decade.
The Harry Potter series is expected to premiere in 2027, and for ten years, the story of Harry Potter will be explored in depth.

WBD CEO reveals Harry Potter TV series will run for a decade
Child actor Dominic McLaughlin will appear as the main character in the Harry Potter series. Joining him will be Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout, playing his best friends Hermione and Ron.
While Zaslav’s comments have recently surfaced about the HBO series’ decade-long run, it was Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content Casey Bloys who had previously revealed to Deadline that the Harry Potter series will explore the novels in depth and will run on HBO Max for ten years.
She said:
"This new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years."
While this is exciting news for the Potterheads, it also raises questions about how the show will depict the storyline by running the series for ten consecutive years, as there are only seven books. However, some speculations mention that just like the Deathly Hallows movies, some books might be divided into two parts to faithfully adapt the details without needing to skip any of it.
Bloys also confirmed that the Harry Potter series will not explore the Fantastic Beasts story and will only focus on the seven novels. Further, more information about the episode count of Season 1 of the Harry Potter series was revealed, informing the fans that the first season will consist of eight episodes.
