Platonic Season 2 concluded recently, with Sylvia and Will starting a new phase of their friendship as business partners. The Apple TV+ series feels like a breath of fresh air as it stays away from the friends-turned-lovers trope.

The show has acquired a huge fan following, but Apple TV+ has not yet renewed it for a third season. As the comedy awaits renewal, series creators Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller have talked about their plans for a potential third chapter.

In an interview with The Wrap, the creators teased that if Platonic Season 3 happens, audiences will get to see a new relationship dynamic between Sylvia and Will, as they go from being friends to co-owners of their bar. Delbanco said:

“If we are lucky enough to get a Season 3, it is a great new dynamic for them. It’s something they’ve never done before. It obviously comes with a million inherent tensions that anyone who’s ever worked at anything can imagine.”

Since the time they reconnected in Platonic Season 1, Sylvia and Will have been with each other through thick and thin. Though there have been ups and downs in their friendship, the two have always held each other’s backs and brought themselves out of some tough personal and professional problems.

However, business was never involved in their friendship until the end of the second season. In the Season 2 finale, Will asks Sylvia to become a co-owner of his Sh*tty Little Bar so that he can bypass a non-compete clause introduced by Jenna. Sylvia agrees, and the two best friends officially turn into business partners.

As per the series creators’ comments, it will be interesting to see how the duo navigates this new chapter of their bond. During the interview, Nicholas Stoller added that since Platonic has not been officially renewed yet, the team does not want to set their hopes high, but have discussed that they want to portray the theme of friends working together in the next season:

“We’re very superstitious, so we don’t like try to get too into figuring out what future seasons will be before we hear what’s going to happen, but there is something inherently funny and complex about working with your friend — we just know that that is a rich area.”

Running the bar together can work well for both Will and Sylvia. Not only would it help Will to get rid of the non-compete agreement, but also enable Sylvia to have a work-life balance and focus on her family, something that she struggled with in Season 2.

The series stars Rose Byrne as Sylvia and Seth Rogen as Will. The rest of the cast members include Carla Gallo as Katie, Luke Macfarlane as Charlie, Alisha Wainwright as Audrey, Rachel Rosenbloom as Jenna, Sophie Leonard as Frances, Sophia Kopera as Maeve, and Max Matenko as Simon.
