HBO's Task concluded its seven-episode run on Sunday, October 19, 2025. The episode continues the fallout from the sixth episode last week that began with the devastating deaths of Robbie Prendergrast and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Stover. Now, "A Still Small Voice" begins with Tom and Aleah looking into Anthony Grasso's previous case.

The Task finale begins on a more thrilling note, but the closing minutes are more dramatic as the case has been closed midway through the seventh episode. The synopsis for episode 7, "A Still Small Voice", reads:

"As the task force seeks answers and the Dark Hearts cover their tracks, a shocking revelation leads them to a final confrontation."

Task Episode 7 recap:

Here are some of the major events in Task Episode 7:

  • Maeve contemplates what to do with the money

The previous episode ended with Shelley Driscoll handing over a mysterious bag to Maeve. We learn that Robbie had already managed to sell off the drugs before his shocking death in the opening minutes of Task Episode 6. He had instructed Shelley to hand off the money to Maeve, meaning he may have known that his end was near. Maeve discusses with her best friend what to do with the money, and the latter advises the former to hide it.

Taking this advice, she hides the money in the chicken house.

  • Aleah and Tom discover Cliff's crashed car

Tom and Aleah explore the park where Cliff's car crashed in the fourth episode of Task, "All Roads". They take the help of some local park rangers, where they learn that the place where Cliff's car crashed was isolated, and the crash site would not be discovered until someone accidentally came across it.

  • Anthony Grasso is remorseful

The fifth episode revealed that Grasso is the mole inside the FBI team who was leaking the information to the Dark Hearts. But the devastating loss in the opening minutes of Task Episode 6 has Anthony wrecked with guilt. Robbie is not the only one to die in the opening scene of the previous episode. Lizzie is also accidentally run over by Jayson and Perry.

We see Anthony, still dealing with guilt, and thus, he meets his sister to tell them that he was going to confess and deal with the repercussions of his actions. Speaking of which.

  • Jayson learns of Eryn's death

Jayson learns from Dark Hearts member Deric 'Breaker' about Eryn's death. Her body is discovered by the police early in this episode. But what's important is that one of Perry's chains with his name's initials is stuck in her hand. Thus, an enraged Jayson stabs Perry as the latter warns the former about the Dark Hearts arriving in the hideout to kill him.

  • Everything converges at Maeve's house

Early in the episode, Perry shares his theory that the bag they discovered had nothing but magazines. Thus, he believes that Robbie managed to sell off the drugs and send the money to Maeve's house. Jayson relays this information to Breaker, which Donna overhears, and notifies the Dark Hearts members. Grasso learns about Dark Hearts' ambushing Maeve through his boss, Michael Dorsey.

Dorsey is trying to kill Grasso, but he himself is shot by Vincent, who in turn is shot by Anthony. Vincent also shot Grasso before the latter died. But he drives to Maeve's house to warn her. She, Harper, and Wyatt try to leave the house in a hurry, but she forgets the keys. Maeve goes to get the keys, but this is where she is held at gunpoint by Jayson.

Tom and Aleah, who are tracking Grasso, also arrive there and try to help Maeve. But it is Grasso who fatally shoots Jayson.

As Kathleen McGinty and Tom are waiting in the hospital for Grasso to recover, she asks him about the money. Tom lies that there was no money, covering for Maeve, as she, Harper, and Wyatt try rebuilding their lives after the devastating loss.

  • Tom reads the family statement at Ethan's trial

After the task force closes the Dark Hearts case, the last fifteen or so minutes of the finale are dedicated to Tom Brandis. Firstly, we finally get the resolution to the Ethan subplot that was building since the very first episode of the HBO show. Tom initially reads a speech, but then, he speaks from the heart, where he forgives Ethan and promises to wait for him.

  • Sam has a new home

Tom temporarily adopting Sam is one of the major developments in the previous episode. Tom and Sam have bonded over time. But Tom learns that a family wants to adopt Sam. Tom is initially reluctant, but is finally convinced to do so by Catholic priest and friend Daniel Georges. In the ending montage, we see Sam getting ready to meet his adoptive parents, and in the closing minutes, we see Tom clearing a room and looking out of the window.
