Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban actor, Timothy Spall, has joined the confirmation regarding the upcoming HBO reboot. For the uninitiated, Spall, who is a British thespian in his own right, joined the Wizarding World in the third movie of the franchise, Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) as the wizard, Peter Pettigrew, who can transform into a rat.

The British actor sat down for an interview with the Indian newspaper Hindustan Times, where he defended the Harry Potter show, which is currently filming. It is in this interview that Spall attempted to shield the series from online negativity by saying:

“We live in the age of negativity. People jump to conclusions very quickly, and they get hurt very quickly. Because, you can say things in spur of the moment and press a button now. However, I cannot imagine it being anything other than a huge success because the franchise has been such a phenomenon.”

Explaining Timothy Spall's HBO Harry Potter comments:

Recently, director Christopher Columbus revealed his feelings towards the HBO Harry Potter series when the first look at Nick Frost's Hagrid was released. He did so in his appearance on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast:

“So, I’m seeing these photographs … and he’s wearing the exact same costume that we designed for Hagrid. Part of me was like: What’s the point? I thought everything was going to be different, but it’s more of the same. It’s all going to be the same. It’s very flattering for me, because I’m like, that’s exactly the Hagrid costume that we designed. So, part of it is really exciting, so I’m excited to see what they’re going to do with it. Part of it is sort of deja vu all over again.”

It seems that Timothy Spall's recent comments in the Hindustan Times seem to be a response to director Chris Columbus's comments, who had directed the first two movies of the film franchise, Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Fans are surprised to learn that the Harry Potter actor is defending the upcoming TV reboot. He also revealed the reason behind supporting the HBO series:

“It is such a simple story which is incredibly loved… I think it is a wonderful work of imagination. It has led youngsters to literature. It leads kids to reading. It makes them wonder where all this is coming from… ‘Oh, my God! Books!’ Anything that will introduce kids to books is good for me.”

Spall also believes that the HBO series will retain important details from the book:

Spall also expressed his belief that the HBO series could retain countless details from the books that the eight movies left out. However, he is appreciative of the eight movies that were released between 2001 and 2011. The actor's exact words were:

“It's a new manifestation of the world. The films are beautifully made which mean so much to people. They've made careers of so many people. But they are just films and one can’t include the whole book… The series will be able to go into more detail. You'll be able to see things you haven't seen in the films… So you're going to see more. It is not just going to be a copy. Many books are made many times over… Great stories can be retold over and over again.”
