Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power introduced numerous characters from the Tolkien lore. In addition, it also introduced several non-canonical characters that have now become fan-favorites. One of those characters is Arondir, played by Ismael Cruz Córdova, a Silvan Elf from Beleriand.
Arondir is introduced in the premiere episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1, and is tasked to keep a watch on the Southlands. While he might be a new character created for the show, his narrative in the two seasons of the fantasy show was among the most loved.
From falling in love with a human, being captured by Orcs, to fighting to protect people, Arondir depicted the perfect combination of a character with emotional growth and an excellent combatant.
More on this in our story.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power- Arondir’s relationship with Bronwyn and Theo
It is shown that the Southerners disliked the Elves and were unwelcoming toward Arondir, inspecting the surroundings in the premiere episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. However, it didn't stop him from falling for a human when he met Bronwyn, a healer from Tirharad.
Through his story with Bronwyn, the show depicted Arondir’s humble and emotional side. It also resulted in him fighting to save the other humans from Adar and his Orc Army. While investigating poisonous grass around Hordern, Arondir gets captured by the Orcs.
Like the other prisoners, Arondir is also digging tunnels for the Orcs to pass through during the day, and is even forced to cut an ancient tree. He even tries to escape from there and help several others to escape (considered one of the best sequences from Season 1), but gets recaptured. He later helps the villagers of Tirharad fight Adar’s army, which they seem to win.
However, the next wave of Adar’s attack on the already suffering villagers was more threatening. While Númenóreans and Galadriel rescue them, the war triggered Mount Doom, resulting in the creation of Mordor.
In Season 2, it is revealed that Bronwyn died, and through their shared grief, Theo, Bronwyn’s son, and Arondir develop a relationship where he begins teaching Theo his combat skills.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power- Known for his combat skills
Apart from Arondir's intriguing storyline in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, numerous moments depict his skills during combat. In Season 1, even after being aware of the villagers' weakness, Arondir helped them in every sense, displaying the stealthy and quick-thinking nature of the Elves in saving them.
While Arondir showed that he could be vulnerable and affectionate, giving a touching performance on the battleground, he displayed a completely different side of himself. From catching an arrow targeted toward him to killing a ravenous Warg, Arondir had many moments in both seasons that made him one of the favorites.
Further, he was also a crucial part in the War of Eregion against Adar’s forces. He helped Elrond eliminate enemies several times with his archery skills. In addition, he is also a part of the force that is standing against the rise of Sauron as the Dark Lord, ensuring that he will be a huge part in the coming war between the Elves and Sauron in Season 3.
