Who is The Morning Show Season 4 Episode 3's Bethanne Hines?
Chip and Bradley learn about Bethanne thanks to another returning character: Claire Conway, who is described as one of UBA's "conscientious Head of News”. Bradley receives a document titled "2019-liabilities" from Claire, which points out the former and Chip towards Bethanne. Through this file, they learn that Hines was paid $2 million after the Wolf River story got nixed.
Chip later meets Bethanne in the latter half of this The Morning Show episode. After revealing that she signed an NDA, Bethanne pretends to chastise him while typing a text to Chip, instructing him to go through the October 2018 UBA archives for Wolf River depositions, setting up an intriguing mystery for the future.
What is Claire doing in The Morning Show Season 4?
Bel Powley's Claire Conway was a part of the first two seasons. But she sat out the third season, which is why it was surprising when Claire returned in this season. Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt addressed Claire's return in a Deadline interview:
“When I came on in Season 3, I actually wanted Claire in that season too. I’d always been thinking about what a fascinating character she was, and it didn’t really work out story-wise in Season 3, and I believe Bel was busy, but we had always had her in the back of our minds. As we were in the room for Season 4, we were noticing all these protest actions by Extinction Rebellion stopping the Broadway show in the middle, throwing paint onto things, blocking traffic in London. I always felt Claire had a real zeal, a rebellious, revolutionary energy.”
Then, the showrunner continued:
“We thought, ’Well, wow, what if she had joined one of those groups because she hadn’t gotten justice for Hannah?’ What if she was still trying to burn all the institutions down? What if she came into our lives again in that way?’ So she was the perfect carrier for this cover-up story that we wanted to be the centerpiece of the season.”
Bethanne's instructions send Chip on a more intriguing mystery in the upcoming episodes of the Apple TV+ show.
