One Chicago isn't slowing down anytime soon, and co-creator Derek Haas just dropped a hint that more shows could be added to the mix. When asked about future expansions, Haas smiled and nodded toward the mastermind himself.
He told Collider;
"If Dick Wolf were here, he'd say yes. I want to expand."
That's right. The One Chicago empire could grow even bigger, and the idea isn't just talk because it fits right in with how Wolf's brain has always worked.
The man behind the One Chicago empire may already be cooking up more
Dick Wolf's name is basically stamped across half of primetime TV, and One Chicago is no exception. He's the kind of producer who doesn't rest, and his track record proves it. Derek Haas, who worked closely with Wolf on Chicago Fire, knows the pattern all too well.
At the Countdown premiere, he joked that Wolf likely already has four new shows in his head. Haas said, praising Wolf's unstoppable creativity.;
“He’s one of the great producers of all time. He is relentless, and my feeling is he will have four more ideas and shows before you know it, because that’s the way he operates.”
This wouldn't be the first time the franchise expanded. It started in 2012 with Chicago Fire and then spun off into P.D., Med, and even Justice for a short time. With the primary three still leading ratings, the idea of new titles joining the universe doesn't seem far-fetched at all.
In fact, with a strong viewership and an increase in streaming numbers, especially on Peacock, it makes even more sense. Fans clearly haven't had enough of tense rescues, interrogations, and ER chaos. And Wolf's production company? Still churning out nearly 200 episodes a year.
Existing shows stay strong even with shake-ups behind the scenes
For now, One Chicago continues to dominate Wednesday nights. Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med have all been renewed, though some behind-the-scenes shifts are taking place. Budget cuts have already pushed Fire to say goodbye to actors Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett.
Showrunner Andrea Newman hinted that Season 14 is still being planned, saying;
"We haven't sat down for Season 14 yet. We don't know what we're going to do."
Meanwhile, Chicago P.D. heads into its 13th season. The finale sparked mixed reactions-some viewers loved the intensity of Voight's latest takedown, while others felt the payoff didn't land.
But change might be in the air. According to showrunner Gwen Sigan, the characters could be approaching their jobs from a new perspective going forward.
Even with shifts in the cast or crew, the numbers speak for themselves. Ratings remain solid, and streaming has given these shows a second wind. That kind of success keeps the door wide open for Wolf to explore even more of Chicago's public service stories.
The One Chicago franchise has proven it still has plenty of gas in the tank. With Dick Wolf's history of relentless expansion and Derek Haas subtly confirming more ideas could be on the horizon, fans might want to keep their Wednesdays free because the Windy City's stories aren't finished yet.
