The Beast in Me is an eight-episode miniseries on Netflix starring Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys. The miniseries revolves around the cat-and-mouse chase between author Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes) and real estate mogul Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys), who may or may not have murdered his first wife, Madison. The title of the series is the name of the book she writes in the finale.
As for a continuation, The Beast in Me Season 2 may not be happening because the series has been billed as a miniseries. Therefore, the Netflix show ties up all of its storylines in the eight episodes allotted to the series. Nile and Aggie's relationship evolves from a subject and an author to something more sinister as the writer tries to disassociate herself from a possible killer.
The Beast in Me finale ending explained:
The miniseries maintains some level of plausible deniability as to whether Nile murdered Madison or not. As he and his wife, Nina, move next to Aggie Wiggs, Nile invites her to write a book about him. She considers doing so, but first wants to ascertain whether Nile murdered his first wife or not. While there are some hints to his dark side, the finale confirms that Nile is responsible for Nina's death.
The two initially connect over loss; Nile is trying to show that he was not involved with his former wife's murder, and Aggie is still grieving her son Cooper's death. We see this traumatizing event in the first episode, but it is in the finale that we get a clearer picture. The finale reveals that Aggie's eyes were not on the road, resulting in the accident that took Cooper's life.
She uses this truth to convince Nina about Nile's involvement in Madison's death. When convinced, Nina confronts Nile about this, and he admits to it. However, he also blames the death of Madison's murder on her as well. We further learn that it was his father, Martin, and Uncle Rick Jarvis who buried Madison's remains. Nina records this confession, and Nile is arrested.
Nile initially maintains innocence and claims that the recording is fake. It almost looks like he might dodge these accusations, but Rick turns on him and becomes a witness for a lighter sentence. Nile is declared guilty, resulting in three consecutive life sentences without parole. Meanwhile, Aggie publishes the book "The Beast in Me", which recounts her experiences with Nile.
She visits Nile in the prison and they chat for nearly three hours. They even plan for another visit; however, that never happens because Nile is stabbed by a fellow prisoner, who was contacted by none other than Rick. The finale closes with Nina holding her newborn baby, Nile's child, as doubt lingers on her and viewers, wondering how the real estate mogul's offspring might turn out.
"In The Beast in Me, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) has receded from public life since the tragic death of her young son, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Jarvis (Rhys), a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth — chasing his demons while fleeing her own — in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly."
Despite being billed as a miniseries, the makers have not confirmed whether the series is continuing or not. Untamed was previously presented as a miniseries, only to be renewed for a second season. Therefore, The Beast in Me Season 2 could also be an entirely new storyline.
