On the episode airing April 25th, Beyond the Gates introduced fans to a new character named June, played by Jasmine Burke. June was brought to the police station after an unfortunate event, which ended with June being protective of her belongings and defending them against a social worker. June came off as angry and distrustful of everything and everyone. This fiery entrance has led the audience to wonder if June was brought in as a character with shock factor — or if there's more to her story.
June's intro to Beyond the Gates

With this introduction, the viewer forms their own preconceived notions about June, such as she may very well be at fault and not telling the entire story. We have our reservations about this character, especially with her angry demeanor and the way she speaks to Jacob (Jibre Hodges) and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit), who are trying to help her.
It does make one wonder: Why is June so distrusting? What has happened in her life that made her this way? How did she become homeless, and what kind of life did she lead before? As spoken about earlier this week, at least one fan is wondering if June plays a bigger overall role in the show- pondering if she is either Hayley's (Marquita Goings) long-lost mother or an Articulette — either Tracy or Sharon — that Anita (Tamara Tunie) spoke about.
A new character may also mean a new story
Although these concepts are possibilities, it could also be that this new character will bring a new story to the show. Perhaps June does have a family that doesn't include Hayley. Also, maybe June did have a successful career before becoming homeless, but perhaps it wasn't as an Articulette.
Beyond the Gates hasn't been known to introduce a character that isn't tied to the Dupree family in some way. June could have ties to the family, but by what means? Could she be related to the Richardson family, as they deal with the fallout from Nicole(Daphnee Duplaix) and Ted's (Maurice Johnson) anniversary party?
Right now, we have more questions than answers, but the character of June is an intriguing one. Will she allow Jacob and Naomi to help her? Has she been released — and will we see her again?
Watch Beyond the Gates weekdays on CBS and Paramount Plus to see how the story of June unfolds.
