While Cane's journey took some twists and turns this week, a couple broke up, and we're not sure exactly why on The Young and the Restless.
The Young and the Restless, no one told you life was gonna be this way

Nighttime shows like Friends usurped the serial format that's been utilized by Daytime TV, so it's only fair that soaps do the same. There's very little funny about Kyle and Claire breaking up, but their showdown in Chancellor Park hit a funny note when Kyle tripped Claire up on her own words. Claire asked if Kyle would be upset if she went to Los Angeles with a gal pal, prompting Kyle to point out that she's not going to L.A. with Holden -- they're meeting up there.
Claire's reaction was classic and reminiscent of moments that Rachel had with Ross on Friends when tensions were riding high!
Claire keeps saying that she's not breaking up with Kyle to go to Los Angeles with Holden, but she is breaking up with Kyle. And she's going to Los Angeles, and she might see Holden while she's there. On one hand, we can understand Claire's desire to find herself. On the other hand, Kyle doesn't see why Claire can't connect the dots.
The irony of ironies is that Victor had finally come around on Kyle! The Jabot heir should have had a clause in his contract with Victor that if Claire broke his heart, then Victor would have to fork over some money to Kyle!
Maybe Kyle should take a page from Claire's book and take a trip out of town? Maybe Harrison might want to visit his real mother, Tara, who has to be out of that legal finance jam she was in the last time we saw her.
Poor little Harrison has had two surrogate mothers -- Summer and Claire. Summer's now living abroad, and Claire has broken things off with Kyle. Maybe the person Harrison should be calling "Mommy" is Tara, the woman who brought him into the world.
If Kyle's not careful, he might end up having amazing "hate sex" with Audra. She's single. So is he. Stranger things have happened on soaps.
Your love life's D.O.A.

Claire and Holden's trip to Los Angeles, or, should we say, Claire's trip to Los Angeles. where she may meet up with Holden, who will be visiting L.A. at the same time, has us intrigued.
Will Claire and Holden connect with Nick and Sharon, who are also going to L.A. to see Noah? Y&R may be set in Genoa City, Wisconsin, but it shoots at the TV City studios in Hollywood. There's a possibility that Y&R will do some location shooting, as the production wouldn't have to travel far to capture the sights and tourist attractions.
Back in the late 1980s, Y&R shot in Hollywood when Jill and Katherine sent Nina out to the West Coast to get her away from little Phillip (AKA Chance, who is dead now. RIP, Chance.)
Nina and Gina
Speaking of Nina, there was great news that came out of Y&R this week -- Tricia Cast will reprise her role as Nina, Cricket's bestie, for Cricket and Danny's November wedding. Patty Weaver, who plays Gina Roma, Danny's sister, is coming back for a visit, too. Yay!
As much as we're looking forward to seeing Danny and Cricket getting married, surrounded by family and friends, we're really hoping that Nina will get to blast Cane for his inadvertent role in her son's death.
All in the family

Speaking of returns, we're over the moon that Jess Walton has brought Jill Foster Abbott back to Genoa City. A two-time Daytime Emmy-winner, Walton and her character are fan favorites. Walton's Jill is set to play a pivotal role in the whole "Cane wants to take over Newman, Jabot, and Chancellor Industries" storyline.
All business storylines need to show fans the personal fallout. As Cane views Jill as a surrogate mother, Jill's presence stands to take Cane in an entirely new direction. And can we just say that next week's tease that shows a Jill/Nikki scene has us already double-checking our DVRs and/or Paramount Plus subscriptions so we don't miss it.
One of Y&R's best-kept secrets, meaning it just never seems to be mentioned, is that Nikki was once wed to Greg Foster, Jill's brother. There's got to be some history there to be mined!
Your job's a joke, you're broke

Audra Charles continues to fascinate us. There's no one better than firing off a zinger or taking a set of facts and bending them, using them against her opponent with finesse. If she's ever losing an argument or debate against one of Genoa City's business elite (and that rarely happens), Audra pulls out the old "you were born into money, while I've had to fight for everything" card.
Soaps used to be filled with "have-not" characters like Audra (don't get us wrong -- she's dynamically unique!) But it's fun watching people who come from nothing rise to the top.
Sally Spectra continues to be the best friend anyone could ever want or need on a soap opera. She supports Audra and gently tries to point her in the right direction. Sally encouraged Audra to put her heart on her sleeve and try again with Nate. While that didn't work, it resulted in some of the best drama we've seen on soaps in a while.
Even Audra's most ardent critics had to feel something for her when Nate walked out on her. Who knows? Maybe it's not ever yet.
Hell froze over

We weren't surprised to see Jack be the one to reach out to Victor to see if they could team up against Cane. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see Victor later visit Jack at his home. Victor shocked us by going to the "enemy's" home base? If Jack wants to urge Victor to go over to his side, he should employ his sisters to help sweeten the deal. Forget Ashley and her long love affair with the mustached mogul. Traci's late daughter Colleen's heart is beating in Victor's body. If Victor would listen to anyone in the Abbott clan, it'd be Traci!
Message to Michael

If Sally is Genoa City's greatest friend, we think Lauren Fenmore Baldwin is the best wife. She's certainly at the top of the list, given how passionate she is about making sure that Michael doesn't get sucked back into Victor's orbit.
We don't really see conflict coming into Michael and Lauren's marriage in the form of a romantic third. It makes more sense that it's an outside business force. Lauren knows that Michael and Victor don't mix well.
Thanks to Lauren's close friendship with Nikki, she was able to put two and two together. Michael and Lauren are set to celebrate 20 years of wedded bliss at the end of this year. Let's hope that if they take a break, they'll end up back together to ring in their 20th anniversary!
Mom liked you best

We have to admit it was great fun watching Billy gleefully share with Jill that Cane was up to something that could financially destroy the families that Jill cares about in Genoa City.
Cane dumped Billy, and he's been waiting to get even. He sure enjoyed "tattling on his brother" for lack of a better phrase. Maybe Cane might want to think about getting some security for that train of his? People tend to walk in and out of there at will!
