On the July 15 episode of The Young and the Restless, Nick acted suspiciously, Lily learned that Damian was gone, and Cane offered Chance half a million dollars to find out who wanted him dead.
What happened on The Young and the Restless

The episode began with a recap of recent events, including Damian being stabbed and collapsing into Cane’s arms. Then, the new action began with Phyllis coming upon Cane and Damian in the aftermath. Cane informed Phyllis that Damian was dead. There was no bringing him back.
Meanwhile, Lily wondered to Amanda if Cane was putting Damian through the wringer. Lily said that this version of Cane was not the man she married. Amanda stated that Cane was still a decent man. Lily countered that his actions indicated otherwise. Amanda said that Cane wasn’t pushing her to reconcile anymore, but she wondered why Lily threw her new relationship with Damian in Cane's face. Lily said that's not how she meant it to seem. Lily wondered what Cane was lying about. Amanda realized that Lily truly cared about Damian. Lily concurred that what she felt for Damian was very genuine.
Amanda said that Cane wants Lily to be happy, but added that they shared a family, and that created a bond between them. She said that history doesn’t just go away. Amanda suggested that Cane won’t easily give up chasing Lily.
Lily pointed out to Amanda that she was constantly defending Cane. She said Amanda’s not on the list of people she trusts. “Cane can try all he wants to win me back – it’s not going to happen,” Lily asserted to Amanda. A frustrated Amanda said she was only trying to help. Lily wanted to know what was truly going on. Amanda told Lily that Cane kept a photo of her in his office. Lily suggested that both she and Cane should live their lives separately. Amanda said that would be tough as Cane was moving back to Genoa City. Lily asked Amanda why she cared. She repeated to the attorney that she was never, ever getting back together with Cane.
Meanwhile, Phyllis offered to do CPR on Damian, but Cane discouraged her from doing that as Damian was a goner. Phyllis was shocked that Cane didn’t have a doctor on his estate, given his wealth. Cane argued that he didn't have one on standby because he never needed one. Phyllis got up and backed away. Cane wondered why she was doing that. “You think I killed Damian?” Cane queried.
Cane insisted to Phyllis that he didn’t kill Damian. Cane said they were getting along fine. Phyllis quipped that the knife in Damian’s back indicated otherwise. Cane recounted how the alcohol made them feel woozy, and then, Damian was knifed in the back. Phyllis pointed out that Cane didn’t seem drugged, but he explained it away by saying he’d imbibed less and that Damian’s death shocked him. Cane told Phyllis he didn’t have time for her questions. He needed to find his staff, tell Amanda, and find Chance.
Devon and Abby were interrupted by Chance in a train cabin. Abby, who enjoyed a whiskey sour, jokingly asked if Chance taught Carter how to play hacky sack to pass the time. Chance joked he tried to keep his distance from Cane's socially-awkward assistant. Abby wondered if Chance thought someone was trying to kill him. Devon wondered if Cane was eccentric.
Abby said she almost feels sorry for Cane, given his conflicting actions. Chance admits that coming to Nice, France, has been a nice treat, the getaway he didn’t know he needed. Abby suspected that the Genoa City Police Department was missing its top lawman. All three admitted to missing Dominic. Abby said she wanted to hug him and never let him go. Devon suspected that the pathways were clear. Abby quipped that Victor would soon clear the tracks himself. Devon said he felt bad for Amy since she and Damian were being kept apart and she was recovering from cancer. Abby hoped they were home soon.
Then, Cane and Phyllis came running into the train car. Cane was looking for Amanda. Abby asked what was wrong. Cane asked to see Chance alone. Abby and Devon fired some questions at Phyllis, including why Cane wanted to see his lawyer. Phyllis told Abby and Devon to back off as they pummeled her with more questions. Abby and Devon said they’d love to help, but they needed to know that there was a threat. Phyllis demanded that they stop pressuring her.
Cane brought Chance to Damian’s body, where he'd left it in the maze of shrubbery. Chance felt for a pulse and said he couldn't find one. He confirmed that Damian was dead. Cane pointed out that the dagger was gone. Cane shrugged that what he and Damian were talking about was irrelevant. Chance pushed for details. Cane said they talked about losing their fathers and how Damian almost lost his mother. Then, Cane said Damian felt woozy. Came said that he, too, felt a bit off but not as much. Chance asked if the bourbon was laced. Cane said he drank less, and he was running on adrenaline right now. Cane said that Chance would want to talk to Phyllis as she was there. Cane said he wanted Chance to solve this. That was why he brought him there, as he felt his life was in danger. Chance wondered where the dagger was.
Cane asked how he would know where the dagger was. Chance told Cane to relax and that he believed him when Chance professed his innocence. Chance pressed for details about how he and Damian were drugged. Chance said that the booze wasn’t poison, as he was still there. Cane said he was the intended target. Cane suspected that the killer took the bottle of whiskey and the dagger, too.
Phyllis ran into Nick in the maze of shrubbery. Nick said he was searching for Sharon. He said if she wanted to come with him, that would be okay. Phyllis said he wasn’t fine. She asked Nick what he saw. A frustrated Nick said he was tired of seeing nothing but hedges. He needed to find Sharon. Nick asked Phyllis if she was okay. Phyllis said that she was concerned about a matter of life and death.
Chance asked Cane if he had touched the weapon. Cane said he didn’t. He caught Damian with his arms and lowered him to the ground. Chance wanted to know how much Phyllis had seen. Then, Chance took images of Damian’s body with his cell phone. He wanted to know the direction from which the knife came. Chance asked Cane to describe the knife. Cane said it was an antique, and it belonged to him. He said the weapon was from a private collection that was in the train cabin car. Chance thought it was odd that Cane kept a knife unlocked when he feared for his life. The lawman said they needed to contact authorities.
Cane ordered Chance to do some detective work on his own, as they were unable to reach out to people. He offered to put Damian in a freezer to keep his body from decomposing while they figured out their next move. Chance countered that doing that would be illegal. Cane said he needed to find out who wanted him dead and offered him $500,000 to solve the case.
Devon and Abby joined Amanda and Lily in the maze of shrubbery. They updated the two women on what they knew. Lily recalled Cane suspecting that someone was going to kill him. Devon told Lily that Cane seemed shaken. Lily wished that she could find Damian. She said she was concerned that there was a threat to Cane's life. Abby added that Phyllis was a wreck and that she was hiding something. Lily said she didn’t like the sound of that and left.
Next, Lily came upon Nick and Phyllis. She asked Phyllis what she knew. “Um, the truth is, Lily…the truth is….” Phyllis started to say as she struggled to find the words that Damian was dead. Before she could continue, Cane, Chance, Carter, and two workers, who were wheeling Damian's body on a stretcher, came upon them. Lily uncovered the sheet and was horrified to discover Damian’s body.
