At Crimson Lights, Billy was on the phone, bragging about how Abbott Communications was about to take off. Sally joined him, and he informed her that he’d just been singing her praises. He sensed something was wrong, and she mentioned that she’d spoken with Jill about making Audra part of the team. Sally bemoaned that Jill had been adamant that Audra’s past precluded her from being part of the company’s future.

Sally protested that it wasn’t fair because Jill didn’t even know Audra. Sally argued that Audra was highly and uniquely qualified, and she pointed out that Jill hadn’t said Sally couldn’t hire Audra but had only advised against it. Billy figured it was the same as saying no, and he cautioned that Sally’s neck would be on the line if things didn’t go well. Sally vowed to fight for Audra. Billy envisioned Jill pulling her funding if Audra reverted to her old ways, and he urged Sally to question whether Audra was worth risking their future.

Sally recalled a time when Audra had been her only friend in town, and she wanted to help Audra when she was down. Billy maintained that it was a big bet to make on someone, but Sally was confident that Audra would work like a demon and have her back. “Because I didn’t,” Billy acknowledged. He thought perhaps he was being hard on Audra because he didn’t want to see Sally get burned. Billy implored Sally to weigh the pros and cons, and he trusted her to make the right call.

At the Genoa City Athletic Club, Audra admonished Holden for spilling his guts to Claire. Holden swore that Audra was making a bigger deal out of it than it was. He explained that Claire had been pushing to know about his and Audra’s history, and the topic had arisen again when he’d taken her to the Shadow Room. Audra was stunned that he’d taken Claire there, given his and Audra’s history with the place and the people at the Shadow Room. She asked if he had a death wish.

Audra taunted that Holden had probably been afraid to take Claire to any other club because he wouldn’t have gotten past the velvet rope, and his girlfriend would have realized he wasn’t as cool as he pretended to be. Holden clarified that Claire wasn’t his girlfriend. Audra accused him of trying to impress a vulnerable woman with a little dirt and scandal to get her hot and bothered. Audra bet Claire hadn’t been able to wait to take him back to her room and show her appreciation for revealing the information.

Audra ranted that Holden was trying to ruin her life. He reiterated that Claire had been suspicious about his past with Audra, and she’d pushed to find out more as they got closer. Holden insisted that Claire wouldn’t have stopped trying to find out what had happened, so he’d told her a careful version of the truth. Audra spat that he’d just given a woman who hated her something to use to sabotage her life, and she was sure Claire would try to do exactly that.

Audra panicked that Claire would go to Nate or Amy with what she knew, and she’d be ruined if the information got back to Sally and Billy. Holden stressed that he’d only told Claire a version of the story, and he’d never mentioned “his” name. Holden was sure that he’d nipped Claire’s curiosity in the bud, and he swore that he also didn’t want the full story to get out. Sally entered the club and sensed the tension between the two.

Holden claimed that he and Audra had just been reminiscing about old times, but sometimes things that used to be important turned out to be not worth remembering at all. Holden added that he’d lost his appetite, and he headed out. Sally observed the steam escaping from Audra’s ears, and she advised Audra not to engage.

Sally broke the news that her anonymous investor had strongly advised her not to hire Audra. Audra groaned that she was out of a job before she’d gotten started, but Sally vowed to fight for Audra. Sally insisted that the investor had bought into her vision and leadership, but getting Audra on board might take longer than they’d thought. Sally promised that they just needed time and a plan to make it happen – and she had one.

At the new Newman ranch, Cane instructed someone over the phone to send word to his tech team. Victor haughtily remarked that it sounded like bad news. Cane dared Victor to deny that he’d just launched the AI software against him and his company.

Victor found it ironic that the doomsday machine Cane had intended to use against others had been used against Cane. Cane vowed to find out whether Victor had stolen the software with Phyllis’ help. Adam chided Cane for not having protection in place in case something like that happened, and he pointed out that Cane had no proof against Victor. Adam imagined Newman Media would have a field day with the boneheaded play. Cane growled that Victor wouldn’t get away with it. Victor wished Cane luck taking him on, and Cane stormed out.

Adam marveled that no one had expected Victor to go after Cane first instead of hitting Jabot, and he considered it the perfect move. Victor predicted that Cane’s company would eventually end up in bankruptcy court to salvage what was left, and Adam anticipated they would take what they wanted for pennies on the dollar. Victor reveled in seeing the look on Cane’s face when he’d realized his phony empire would crumble, and he imagined it would be even more satisfying to watch Jack suffer the same fate.

Later, Victor left a voicemail for Michael, asking if the lawyer had made up his mind because things were heating up, and Victor needed counsel.

In Chancellor Park, Cane told someone over the phone to call in reinforcements to find a way to activate the kill switch, or his company would go down. Phyllis approached and asked why he was worked up. Cane revealed that the person who’d stolen his AI program had turned it against him, and his company was collapsing from the inside. Phyllis inquired how they could stop it.

Cane reported that his team hadn’t been able to activate the kill switch, so it was only a matter of time before his company was destroyed. Phyllis was certain that it wasn’t too late to fix it. Cane lamented that perhaps it was the price the universe was making him pay for deceiving Lily and his children.

Phyllis asserted that Cane hadn’t lost yet, but he was skeptical of her optimism when she’d supposedly been left out in the cold, too. He prompted her to make him believe she’d had nothing to do with stealing the AI. Billy interrupted and surmised they were frantically trying to figure out how to get back the stolen software – if it had really been stolen. Cane barked that he didn’t have time for conspiracy theories when he had fires to put out. Cane stalked off.

Billy fished for details about the fires Cane was putting out, but Phyllis refused to tell him because he’d blown his chance to be part of their winning team. Billy observed that Cane had seemed upset, and he deduced from Phyllis’ avoidance of the subject that things weren’t going according to plan. Phyllis suggested that Billy focus more on what Victor intended to do next, but Billy was confident that both Jabot and Abbott Communications were safe because he and Jack had taken precautions. Phyllis warned that the AI software couldn’t be stopped once it got into a system. Billy wished her luck, and he walked away.

Victor called it a nice surprise when Phyllis showed up at the ranch. Phyllis relayed her conversation with Billy about him and Jack setting up precautions to weather any kind of attack. Victor figured the Abbotts’ confidence would make it easier to go in for the kill. Phyllis inquired whether Victor had put anything into motion on that front, and he advised her to stop playing games and tell him what she wanted to know.

Phyllis reminded Victor that they had agreed that he would use the AI program to go after Jabot, not Cane. Victor scoffed at the idea that he and Phyllis were partners. He promised that she’d get what she’d asked for, but he contended that it was none of her business what he did with the program. He added that she’d screwed Cane over once, so it shouldn’t be difficult to do it again.

At Society, Adam told Chelsea that a reporter had just filled him in about Billy running his mouth about how Abbott Communications would bury Newman Media. Adam thought they should wait to take action until they saw what Billy was up to, but Chelsea doubted Victor had signed off on doing nothing. Adam reported that Victor had bigger fish to fry, since Victor had just released the AI software into Arabesque’s operating system, and Cane could be out of business by the end of the week. Chelsea wondered why Adam didn’t seem happier about it.

Adam confided that it bothered him that Victor was determined to destroy Jack. Adam wished his father could be satisfied with winning, but it wasn’t enough for Victor to have everything he’d ever dreamed of. Chelsea felt sorry for people who were never satisfied because they were never truly happy. Adam shared that Victor wanted him to create a diversion to distract the Abbotts when Victor was ready to drop the hammer on them.

Chelsea hated that Victor had handed Adam the dirty work to keep his own hands clean. Adam bemoaned that it killed him because Jack had not only been one of his few friends but also a father figure to him when everyone else had turned their backs on him. Chelsea contended that Adam could always tell Victor no, but Adam knew Victor would see it as a betrayal.

Adam considered whether to tell Victor how they really felt. Chelsea sympathized that it was a tricky situation for Adam, but she also thought it was time for someone in the family to stand up to Victor and tell him he was wrong. Chelsea questioned whether Adam would go against Victor’s orders to protect Jack.
