Passions Yanked in Canada

Many Canadian viewers who watch Passions on CTV will find themselves without a show this fall.

CTV has traded the rights to Passions to CanWest Global. Passions will continue to air through the summer, but come fall, the timeslot will be handed over to the ABC soap, General Hospital.

Things are slightly different for BCTV fans, who will be seeing As the World Turns in the Passions time slot this fall.

Because not everyone has access to Global(it is not offered nation-wide, and is only available through pay cable in many other areas), anyone who watches solely on CTV will not be able to watch the show anymore.

One of the reason for Passions removal from Canada's national broadcaster is ratings. Although Passions scores very well among teens and even older viewers, too many viewers tape the show, or watch on NBC, which does not count in Canadian ratings.

Viewers in the United States are unaffected by this decision.
