Popular The Young and the Restless alum Michael Muhney (ex-Adam Newman) says he has no plans to return to soap operas. "I always promised myself I'd only ever play Adam on Y&R. No more. No less."

Fans who have hoped that The Young and the Restless alum Michael Muhney (ex-Adam Newman) might one day return to the world of soap operas are in for a disappointment. The actor recently declared that he has no interest in coming back to the genre.

Muhney revealed the crushing news during an online exchange with fans in which he reported that he's come very close to some exciting Hollywood jobs but hasn't booked his next big role yet.

One fan suggested that perhaps the actor could "grab a spot" on General Hospital, to which Muhney responded, "Truly no offense to anyone in production or anyone who is a viewer but I have no desire to do another soap."

He continued, "I always promised myself I'd only ever play 'Adam' on Y&R. No more. No less. That was the only character I was ever interested in portraying on daytime tele."

Despite his lack of enthusiasm for returning to soap operas, Muhney looks back fondly at his 2009 to 2014 run as Victor Newman's son.

"It was something I thought would be an interesting challenge and I'm glad I tried it," he shared. "But I started [my] career in prime time and my heart is both there and in streamers."

Fans who closely follow Muhney won't be entirely surprised by his decision not to return to soaps. Back in 2020, when asked about whether or not he'd be open to joining GH, he shared, "There're folks over there I'd love to work with again and I love the studio and location it films and I kinda dig all the good things I've heard about their cast & crew & set... But that is IF I would go back to daytime."

Since being let go from Y&R in 2014, Muhney has appeared on shows like The Good Doctor and Truth Be Told. Though he hasn't found major post-soap success yet, the actor says he's patiently working toward and waiting for his next big break. And thankfully, he has the flexibility to be choosy about the roles he accepts.

"With every big role I've played I saved my money. I may not be much of an artist but with the sparing talent I possess I've chosen to be somewhat picky about projects," he says. "I'd rather own three less houses and no yachts and have an artistically fulfilling career."
