The One Piece manga is currently in the middle of the Elbaph Arc, where the stakes are at their highest due to the God’s Knights’ plan to conquer the giants. In recent chapters, the antagonists kidnapped the giants’ children to force them into submission and coerced them into burning their library and school. Robin put up a valiant fight to stop their scheme, but was beaten by Sommers.
Just as the situation seemed bleak, Scopper Gaban turned up, slashing through Sommers for the sake of protecting his new home and his son, Colon. One Piece chapter 1149 confirms that Scopper Gaban is a user of both Future Sight and Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, placing him among the strongest fighters in the series.
As the Left Hand of the Pirate King, Gaban was always believed to be a formidable individual who was on the same level as Silvers Rayleigh and Gol D. Roger. He had earned the nickname “Mountain-Eater” for wiping out the entire vegetation on a mountain while facing enemies, and had also clashed with Oden in the past.

However, despite this, fans had never seen Gaban in action apart from short flashback sequences and stories of his legend. He finally appeared in the Elbaph Arc when Luffy was searching for the key to free Loki’s chains. Introduced as Ya-san, Gaban goaded Luffy into fighting with him in order to check his skills.
After a brief confrontation against the Straw Hats, where Gaban overpowered them using his axes, he abandoned the battle as soon as Luffy and Zoro got serious. This was not due to fear, but rather because Gaban had achieved his objective of testing them. As mentioned, chapter 1149 of the One Piece manga finally features Gaban in a serious fight, as he loses his signature smile and faces the God’s Knights who threaten his hometown.
Scopper Gaban displays Advanced Conqueror’s Haki and Future Sight in One Piece
In One Piece chapter 1149, Gaban was enraged and in a hurry to save Colon, protecting the Straw Hats from Sommers while cutting through the immortal God’s Knight with his axe. This was believed to be impossible, and Chopper chased after him to ascertain the truth.
Right after, Gunko received notice from Killingham that the school and library had been burned, leaving Ronja burdened with regret for being alive. As she blamed herself, the surrounding children and other giants tried to console her.
At that point, Gaban jumped into the fray, reprimanding Gunko for trying to take away the culture, history, children, and military might of the giants. As the kidnapped giant children saw Ya-san, Gaban hoped that Colon would not reveal their relationship. Unfortunately, the young boy was overjoyed upon seeing his father and instantly expressed how they’d be saved.
Gunko, who saw how Gaban treasured his son, instantly moved in to use the boy as a hostage while pointing a sword at his neck. While Gaban desperately continued to try and save his child, he saw a vision of the future where Colon was stabbed by Gunko.
Left with no choice, he tearfully gave up, allowing Gunko to pierce through him with her Arrow-Arrow Fruit, after which he fell off the tree. While Gaban was ultimately defeated due to Gunko threatening his son, One Piece fans are more excited than ever since the series has finally revealed a fighter who can turn the tide of the war against the World Government.
Over the course of his battle, Scopper Gaban revealed both Advanced Conqueror’s Haki (ACOC) and Future Sight, which is also known as Future Vision. He had imbued Conqueror’s Haki into his weapon to cut through Sommers, causing it to emit black lightning.
Later, Gaban used Future Sight to glimpse into the future, where he saw Colon being killed. This caused him to surrender and be pierced, but it is unlikely that he was killed. As a result, when he eventually returns in One Piece, armed with all his abilities, he will be a force to be reckoned with.
