MOMENTS

Gio rejects Brook Lynn again

When Gio walked up to Brook Lynn and Lulu fighting again, he mistakenly thought they were arguing about him. But, finding out what Brook Lynn did to Rocco (whether she felt it was fully intentional or not), ignited a whole new level of discontent in Gio. After accusing Brook Lynn of wanting to hurt Lulu more than she wanted to avoid hurting his own brother, he left her speechless by proclaiming, “Walking away from you was clearly the right decision. I never should have come back here tonight. And I won’t make that mistake again.”

Giovanna Mazza’s delivery of that last line was an emotional gut punch. Mazza’s restrained intensity didn’t just show Gio’s anger, it also showed the utter hurt and disappointment he continues to feel with Brook Lynn. Watching Brook Lynn standing, crushed, as he walked away was the moment we witnessed her finally beginning to realize she was becoming a victim of her folly.

When Gio called Sonny Grandpa

When Gio comes to warn Sonny about Sidwell, he’s caught off-guard by Sonny’s rejection of his help and his warnings to stay out of it. When Sonny turned his back to attempt to end the conversation, Gio surprised him by calling him “Grandpa”.

This moment unexpectedly hit me in the feels. The vulnerability that Giovanni Mazza conveyed in one word showed us how important Sonny is to Gio and how scared he is to lose him. It was also a quick eye-opener to Maurice Benard’s Sonny who realized he now had another loved one who could be in danger because of him. .

Willow is the one messing with Daisy

Using Willow’s own flashback to show her as the one who has been messing with Daisy gave us a more interesting and unexpected reveal. The look on her face after her flashback was pretty chilling, and left me wondering if her disturbing change in behavior is going to lead her to Shadybrook, Pentonville, or Ferncliff.

Hats off to Katelyn MacMullen - instead of playing Willow like a caricature of a “crazy person” who could be easily dismissed, MacMullen’s controlled and intentional performance pulls us into the frustration of Willow’s desperation and increasing descent into her loss of reality.

SCENES

Rocco questions his parents about Britt Westbourne

Painful and awkward could only begin to describe what it would be like to have a conversation like this with your child, but Dante and Lulu managed to push through their worry to respond to the situation with maturity, contrition, honesty, and love.

Kudos to the actors and writers for this! These scenes were thoughtfully written and demanded quite a range of emotions from the actors. Alexa Havins, Dominic Zamprogna, and Finn Carr’s thoughtful performances beautifully conveyed the worry, hurt, confusion, anger, and love felt by their characters as they are trying to navigate a most unique set of circumstances.

Rocco talks with his Grandma Laura

These scenes were beautiful and showed the kind of relationship you hope a grandson has with his grandparent. Rocco was honest and vulnerable while Laura was understanding, helpful, and comforting.

Genie Francis is a legend and scenes like this remind us why. She and Finn Carr work so naturally together, it feels authentic and as if they were actually family.

Carly’s plea to Sonny

Carly had to remind Sonny of some hard truths when she was pleading with him not to go after Marco. In trying to get him to see that revenge was not going to protect his family, she told him he was disrespecting Morgan’s memory by not learning from his death. When Sonny insisted they wouldn’t lose another child, Carly asked how he planned to stop it and bluntly pointed out, “Morgan’s gone. Michael was shot in the head and nearly burned alive. Kristina was held hostage and almost killed. And you couldn’t do a damn thing about it. No one could. And this time isn’t going to be any different and you know it.” She implored him to see that now was the time to do something different and to stop the violence before they lost someone else they love.

Laura Wright is a powerhouse who never fails to meet the demands of any scene she is in! Her layered portrayal of Carly has helped to mature and develop the complicated character into one of General Hospital’s iconic roles. Whether you love Carly, hate her, or love to hate her, Wright continues to make her character compelling and infinitely watchable.

NOTABLES

I’m loving take no bull Trina and the swift kick she gave to clueless Kai.

I also love confident Anna and found the way she messed with Vaughn at the Brown Dog quite entertaining.

In her conversation with Chase at the boathouse, Tracy was sincere, brutally honest, and vulnerable and, yet (sigh), Chase barely listened. He seems to think defending Brook Lynn at all costs makes him a good husband and fails to recognize an actual good husband would be helping his wife to process her pain and avoid her worst instincts.

The pictures from Joel Sartore’s Photo Ark Babies are amazing!

MUSINGS

The metro court got two new sets of towels this week - red striped and yellow striped!

Is it my imagination or was that the world’s longest fireworks show? Before it was over, there was time to run out of beer, have a fight, move Daisy, and discover Daisy was missing from her crib!

Why are there not already more cameras at the Q mansion? Where’s Yuri? Does Willow have a secret passageway? How did the monitor pick up Daisy’s cry and not Willow’s voice? Is Willow phasing like a Marvel character? SO.MANY.QUESTIONS

If I were Sasha, I think I might start by wearing Daisy in a baby sling carrier everywhere I went and hire a security team before I uprooted my entire life to go underground, away from everyone I knew and loved but, hey, no judgement. Maybe she can go stay with Grandpa Robert and Grandma Holly for a while.

Marco, son of Sidwell, trying to shame Laura over Sonny was almost comical.

If I took a shot every time Chase referred to Brook Lynn as “my wife”, I would be too drunk to write this article.

Loved Martin’s little cha cha dance to show Laura how well his physical therapy was working.

Can we just get custom Brook Lynn and Lulu voodoo dolls for each of them so we don’t have to keep watching the two of them duke it out.

Kathleen Gati is returning soon! Will she be the kinder, gentler version of Liesl Obrecht or will she be coming to wreak havoc?
