The news that General Hospital planned to recast the role of Carly Corinthos following the departure of Emmy winner Sarah Brown created a stir among GH fans earlier this year. However, fans have apparently been won over by the new Carly, played by Tamara Braun, as evidenced by Braun's six nominations in this year's Dankies.

Braun received nods in the Outstanding Lead Actress, Outstanding Newcomer, Most Attractive Female Performer, and Favorite and Least Favorite Characters fields. Additionally, Braun, and all performers nominated in the Lead and Supporting Actor and Actress fields, received a nomination as Outstanding Overall Performer.

Interestingly enough, Braun will go head-to-head with Brown in the Lead Actress field. The former GH star did receive a nomination for hear early 2001 work as Carly. This marks the first time in Dankies history that two performers have been nominated in a major category for their work on the same role. Brown was also nominated in the Most Missed Performer field.

In the Newcomer field, two of Braun's three competitors will no longer be with GH by this time next year. Robert Kelker-Kelly (Stavros Cassadine) has already left the show and Jensen Buchanan (Melissa Bedford) will reportedly be leaving in early February. The final nominee is Robin Christopher (Skye Chandler).

Christopher's addition to the GH cast added a great deal of spark. Christopher also earned Supporting Actress and Overall Performer nods. Christopher's on-screen mom, Linda Dano (Rae Cummings) earned a nod in the Outstanding Special Guest/Recurring Performer. The storyline in which Alan Quartermaine learned that Skye is his biological daughter earned nods in the Favorite and Least Favorite Storyline categories.

As previously mentioned, Robert Kelker-Kelly exited GH in November. However, the actor earned a nod in the Lead Actor field, in spite of his short stay. Kelker-Kelly's Stavros did earn a nod as Least Favorite Character. In the storyline fields, the Cassadines versus Spencers saga earned nods as Favorite and Least Favorite Storylines. Additionally, Stavros' death drop into a bottomless pit earned a nomination as the Most Memorable Moment of the year.

Like last year, the big winner in terms of nominations was Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). Benard, last year's big winner, again pulled in Lead Actor, Attractive Male Performer and Favorite Character nods. He's also a repeat nominee in the Overall Performer field. Last year, Benard grabbed 33% of the total vote in the Overall Performer field.
