Fans learned a lot about Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on Friday, October 10, 2025, thanks to the NYCC panel. There, Marvel TV executive Brad Winderbaum spoke extensively about the upcoming season of Born Again, which is scheduled to begin streaming on Disney+ in March 2026. Several things in the upcoming season have fans hyped.
One of the mysterious factors that has fans looking forward to Born Again Season 2 is Matthew Lillard, who was cast early this year for season 2 in an undisclosed role. Now, it seems that we know what role he is going to play in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. At the NYCC panel for the second season, Winderbaum revealed that Lillard is playing an original character named "Mr. Charles".
Who is Daredevil: Born Again Season 2's Mr. Charles?
Winderbaum described Mr. Charles as a new villain, but that should not mean that the viewers should underestimate him. Winderbaum described Matthew Lillard's character as a representative of a new class of power players. Thus, it seems that Wilson Fisk might have his hands full as he will have to battle on two fronts: Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Mr. Charles.
Brad Winderbaum described Lillard's Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 character like this:
"The story is about power. When Wilson Fisk takes over New York, not just as a mayor but as a king in a way, it puts him in a new class of power players on the international stage. Matthew Lillard's character represents that. But he's as influential, in many ways, as Fisk is. That power negotiation at a very high level of politics and international diplomacy is also fun to watch. [Fisk] is dealing with Mr. Charles up here and Daredevil [Charlie Cox] down here for different reasons. So he's getting squeezed a little bit."
The usage of the word "power player" has fans come up with an interesting theory regarding Matthew Lillard's role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. It connects to the "powerbroker" storyline in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. According to them, Mr. Charles might be one of the many powerbrokers across the MCU, finally resolving a long-standing dangling MCU plotline.
However, as of now, it's just a theory. Moreover, "Mr. Charles" might also be a misdirect or an alias. Thus, it would be advisable for fans to wait until the season begins to stream on Disney+ next year.
What do we know about Born Again Season 2?
The upcoming second season is a direct continuation of the season 1 finale. Mayor Wilson Fisk has enacted a curfew enforced by the anti-vigilante task force and banned all masks. The first season ends with Matt forming a resistance group to bring down Fisk's oppressive regime. The finale set the stage for an exciting second season.
Executive Producer Jesse Wigutow sat down for an interview with Collider last week, in which he assured that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is creatively more singular. His exact words were:
"We are in the process. It's so fresh in my mind. I'm looking at cuts and thinking about, 'What can we improve?' I think it's a singular vision in a way that Season 1 is not. Season 1 is, to your point, not hodgepodge, but it was jigsawed together. We came up with a new pilot and we came up with a new finale, and that's kind of what you're speaking to there, the clarity of those two things, which I thought worked, and I think Season 2 has the same. There is clarity of vision. The showrunner has been awesome and really has a point of view that we've executed on. Nothing's perfect, but I do think Season 2 is quite good, and I think it's going to be very satisfying."
Moreover, we already know that Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones is back in Born Again Season 2. It was also confirmed that Jones will be one of Matt's allies in bringing down Fisk's regime, as his curfew also affects her. Jessica Jones' involvement also has fans hopeful for Luke Cage and Dany Rand's return as well.
