Gen V Season 2 Episode 7 Hell Week answers numerous long-standing questions that fans have had in their mind ever since the first episode streamed a month ago. We also get a clearer picture of how the unidentified burnt man and Dean Cipher are linked. The sixth episode last week hinted at the possibility that the burnt man Cipher claimed to be his father might be Thomas Godolkin.
Now, the seventh episode, which streamed on October 15, 2025, clarifies all the mysteries. While some fans are shocked by the revelation this week, others celebrated the confirmation of their long-standing fan theory. The official logline for Gen V Season 2 Episode 7 reads:
"A Reminder from the Office of Student Conduct: God U strictly prohibits hazing. Students should never be called demeaning names, forced to wear humiliating clothes, or treated like any animal. If you see something, say something! No one will call you a narc."
Gen V Season 2 Episode 7 confirms that Cipher is none other than Thomas Godolkin:
The seeds for this twist were planted ever since the fourth episode of Gen V Season 2, "Bags". We come across a burnt old man inside a hyperbaric chamber for a bit in the second act of that episode. After that, he appeared in every episode for a bit. But it is in the seventh episode that the burnt man had the largest role, meaning we were going to get the mystery finally answered.
The sixth episode laid the foundation of the twist that he was Thomas Godolkin, as the group informs Stan Edgar about encountering a mysterious burnt man at Cipher's place. The third act of the episode finally sees the return of Thomas Godolkin, played by Ethan Slater. Marie herself heals the burnt man after confirming his identity as Thomas Godolkin.
However, as soon as he is healed, we learn that "Cipher" was not even a real man. As Polarity is about delivering a killing blow, "Cipher" reveals that his real name is Doug Brightbill. We learn that he was a mere vessel for Godolkin, who wanted to spread his N*zi ideology. Godolkin's powers are similar to a twisted version of two Marvel characters, Professor X and Puppet Master (Fantastic Four supervillain).
While Charles Xavier has telepathic abilities, the Puppet Master can control the actions of others, provided he creates life-like marionette puppets of the individual he is controlling. In Gen V Season 2, Godolkin can control Doug from far away, and he can control others through his vessel. Considering, he has partnered with Sister Sage, he might be intending to control Homelander.
It should also be noted that he controlled Doug for decades, as he was there to deliver Marie. But Dough reveals that the last thing he remembers is getting fired from his Blockbuster job. This explains that he served as Godolkin's vessel for over twenty years.
Godolkin is ambitious enough to capture the ultimate power:
While it is unclear who will betray whom first between him and Sister Sage, it is becoming clear that Gen V Season 2 Godolkin just wants to be powerful. Starlight even describes Godolkin as ambitious in the season 2 premiere. Thus, based on the latest revelation, many are theorizing that Thomas Godolkin and Sister Sage have collaborated so that the former can control Homelander's body.
But it should be noted that this is just a fan theory, and we will get a clearer picture next week as the Gen V Season 2 finale releases next week.
"School is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it."
What do you think is Thomas Godolkin's plan? Let us know your theory. If you haven't seen the seventh episode, catch it as soon as you can on Prime Video.
