The seventh episode of Gen V Season 2 unmasks Ethan Slater's Thomas Godolkin as the master mind behind Cipher. He is revealed to be the central antagonist of the entire season. But one of the shocking scenes in the season 2 finale of Gen V was when Marie uses her power to finally kill Godolkin, meaning Ethan Slater will not be in The Boys Season 5.
However, his death in the current season's finale may not mean that Ethan Slater has exited The Boys universe for good. There is one series in which Slater could return as Thomas Godolkin: the 1950s-set, Vought Rising, which is a prequel show set before the events of both The Boys and Gen V Season 2.
How did Thomas Godolkin die in the Gen V Season 2 finale?
After finally getting his body back in Gen V Season 2 Episode 7, the first thing that Thomas Godolkin does is put his plan of culling the supposed "useless" supes. Marie tries to stop him and attempts to tear the evil scientist apart. However, Godolkin manages to take control of Marie and tortures Annabeth, Jordan, Cate, Sam, and Emma. However, Polarity again unleashes a beam that dispels Thomas Golkin's hold over Marie.
Godolkin tries to puppet Marie again to kill Polarity, but she retains control of her own body and uses her hemokinetic powers to blow his head, ending the scientist's reign of terror in Gen V Season 2. This may look like the end of the road for Ethan Slater's character in the series, but that might not be the case.
Eric Kripke himself confirmed that Godolkin COULD be a part of Vought Rising:
Vought Rising is the second spin-off of The Boys, with Gen V being the first. Amazon gave the spin-off a full series order in 2024 and confirmed that Aya Cash and Jensen Ackles will headline Rising. Kripke also described Vought Rising as a murder mystery that's somehow linked to the rise of Vought, the corporation that controls the supes in The Boys.
While Vought Rising is under production, Eric Kripke revealed to Entertainment Weekly on August 29, 2025, that the writers were thinking about ways to crossover Rising with Gen V:
"If Vought Rising works and we can keep doing more [seasons], I think we'd be insane to not put Ethan Slater's character in that show. He's right there lined up for a younger Thomas Godolkin. We've discussed it."
For now, it remains to be seen if fans will get a Thomas Godolkin cameo when Vought Rising begins streaming on Prime Video.
What's next for The Boys Universe?
The next series in the gritty Prime Video superhero universe is The Boys Season 5. In fact, the Gen V Season 2 finale does hint at Marie, Jordan, Cate, Annabeth, Cate, Sam, and Emma being a part of The Boys Season 5, as Starlight and A-Train, welcoming them to the resistance. The resistance gaining a supe with hemokinetic abilities is a major power-up for the good guys.
"School is back in session. As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. But parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus. The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it."
Gen V Season 2 is currently available to stream in its entirety on Prime Video.
