"Hell Week", the seventh episode of Gen V Season 2, pulled off a spectacular twist that was theorized since the very beginning of this season, and yet won over the fans. It finally gave answers to all the questions that fans had ever since the very beginning of the second season's first episode. We were finally given all the answers about Dean Cipher.
Moreover, the episode finally revealed who the burnt man introduced in the fourth episode actually was. We finally learn that the burnt man is indeed Thomas Godolkin. As Marie heals his burns, Godolkin gets back his body and health, after spending almost six-and-a-half decades in other bodies. Thus, he is back in Gen V Season 2 Episode 7 to wreak havoc across the world.
Thomas Godolkin's Gen V Season 2 timeline explained:
The opening scene of the Gen V Season 2 premiere travels back in time to the 1960s, instead of picking up with the main characters under incarceration. There, we see a young Thomas Godolkin running into the laboratory to stop his fellow scientists from injecting themselves with Compound V. However, the scientists have already injected themselves, and Godolkin witnesses the fallout with his own eyes.
One of the scientists lights up on fire, and he starts running amok, spreading fire across the lab. Godolkin tries to press the alarm, but falls unconscious, and the screen then cuts to the present, and we see the place where the main characters were incarcerated in the season 1 finale. We finally learn what happened to Godolkin only in the seventh episode of this season.
Turns out, Thomas was burned but alive after falling unconscious in the Gen V Season 2 premiere's opening scene. As he lived in a heavily damaged body, Godolkin gained some sort of telepathic abilities. However, it is unclear how he got the power. He did not inject himself; therefore, he may have gained them when he accidentally inhaled Compound V, or he was injected with it when he was at death's door.
While how Godolkin got his powers is unclear, one thing is clear: he must've jumped bodies for a long time before finally settling for the body of the man referred to as "Dean Cipher".
Dean Cipher's truth revealed:
As Marie restores Godolkin to his body, we learn that he is the mastermind who has been puppetting "Cipher" all along. Moreover, we learn that Hamish Linklater's character's real name is Doug Brightbill. Doug claims that he was fired from his job at Blockbuster, and since then, he has been Godolkin's puppet "Cipher" all along.
Considering "Cipher" was the doctor delivering Marie, it means that he was Thomas Godolkin's prisoner for over twenty years. However, now that Godolkin is back in his body and has retained his powers, he wants to carry out his agenda of preserving what he sees are the "strongest" supes.
Thomas Godolkin might be even more dangerous than Homelander:
Sister Sage appears in the fourth episode of Gen V Season 2, where we learn that she is teamed up with Godolkin. Now that Thomas Godolkin is back, many fans believe that he is using Sage to somehow get to Homelander. If Godolkin manages to puppet Homelander, Godolkin can use the already deranged supe to wipe out supes he deems unworthy. If that's the case, the good guys in The Boys Season 5 may have an even more challenging villain than a free-willed Homelander.
Actor Ethan Slater addressed how he found out about his character's twist in an Entertainment Weekly interview after the seventh episode of Gen V Season 2 streamed on Prime Video:
"I had been given vague clues. It was like, 'You're really prominent towards the last two episodes,' 'You have these little moments beforehand,' and 'You're kind of the big bad.' But they didn't quite tell me about the twist with Hamish. So the first few episodes that I read, I didn't know. Then I got on a phone call and [showrunner] Michelle [Fazekas] laid it all out for me. After that phone call, they sent me [episodes] 7 and 8, and I got to read it."
What do you think is Thomas Godolkin's plan in the series, and do you think that he will make it to The Boys Season 5?
