HBO's Harry Potter series is still under production, and rumor has it that a pivotal scene from the Philosopher's Stone book is going to be filmed soon. To do so, the production team is heading to the coastal town of Cadgwith. It sounds like this filming scheduled for next week might be good for the scenic coastal town, as resident fishermen have also been invited to join as extras.
Filming for the HBO series officially kicked off on Monday, July 14, 2025, and it is expected to continue for the foreseeable future. It is rumored that the HBO Harry Potter series will be filmed in Cadgwith between October 6 and 10, 2025. This story was exclusively published on The Packet, a local newspaper, on October 3, 2025.
Fans believe that Hagrid and 11-year-old Harry Potter's first meeting will be filmed this coming week:
For the uninitiated, the starting chapters of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone deal with the Dursleys trying their best to keep the truth of Harry's past away from him by forbidding him from reading the Hogwarts letter. They first leave Privet Drive for a hotel, only to receive one there as well. A frustrated Vernon takes his family and Harry to a secluded island house disconnected from the outside world.
However, Hagrid crashes in on Harry's 11th birthday and reveals to the boy that he is a wizard and gives him the Hogwarts letter. This scene is pivotal in the entire series, either the book or the movies. It remains to be seen if this moment in the HBO Harry Potter series manages to surpass the book dialogue, which is: "Yer a wizard, Harry".
This update about the production moving to Cadgwith has Potterheads excited, as this moment from the Philosopher's Stone movie is beloved amongst the fans, more than in the movies.
What do we know about the HBO series?
As of now, the plan seems that HBO is going to adapt the seven Harry Potter books. It seems that each season of the HBO series will adapt one book, and it is expected that the show will run for at least a decade. i.e., until 2037. But the most surprising thing about the series is that the first season is going to introduce some characters that were introduced in later books.
For instance, while Cornelius Fudge and Lucius Malfoy were introduced in the Chamber of Secrets book, the HBO adaptation seems to be planting the storylines for these characters right in the first season, which is adapting Philosopher's Stone. Furthermore, it also seems that the series is expanding upon some things that were not a part of the books.
For instance, the crew supposedly filmed a young couple, that's rumored to be Lilly and James Potter. Thus, some believe that the HBO series will finally show fans the events leading to Voldemort attacking the Potter household on the night of Halloween. Therefore, it looks like HBO is taking numerous steps to ensure that the HBO series differentiates itself from the iconic movie franchise between 2001 and 2011.
"Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!"
As of now, the HBO series does not have a release date, but we know that it is set to release sometime in 2027.
