Marvel surprised fans on June 9, 2025, with another trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart. Consisting of just six episodes, the miniseries is set to release the first three episodes of the show on June 24, 2025, i.e., it is just two weeks away. The series is finally set to focus on Riri Williams/Ironheart, who will carry forward the legacy of Iron Man.
Riri was introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where she helped the Wakandans ward off Namor's invasion. Now, the solo series will follow her post her life-changing adventure in Wakanda. The new trailer answers the central question that we've been wondering for a while: how will Ironheart/Riri confront an opponent who is powered by magic?
Turns out, the answer is simple: just create a suit that's powered by magic, i.e., using the opponent's weapon against them. This makes Ironheart a worthy successor to Iron Man, as even Tony did something similar in his tenure in the MCU.
Tony Stark upgraded with every entry in the MCU. Ironheart might feature a similar storyline:
One of the most impressive things about Tony Stark's character across all of his MCU appearances is the upgrades he gave himself with each entry. In the first Iron Man movie, Tony Stark has to contend with the icing problem as he flies upwards. He first turns this problem on his opponent in the final act of the movie.
But he seemingly improves upon the icing issues in Iron Man 2. But this time, his suits are fried by Ivan Vanko/Whiplash's electricity-powered whips. With some assistance from War Machine/Rhodey, Stark defeats Vanko, but it isn't till 2012's The Avengers that we learn that Stark has upgraded his suit to resist and power itself by electricity.
Thus, when even a God strikes lightning at him, Iron Man cannot only absorb it, but also power his suit and deflect it back to Thor. There are countless other instances across the MCU that suggest that Tony went on to upgrade his suits after each of his encounters. In fact, it can also be said that every safety feature in Peter Parker's Spider-Man suit is inspired by Tony's trials in each of his movies.
Thus, Riri Williams can also do something similar with her Ironheart armor. She may be either betrayed or blamed for something The Hood did, and he initially overpowers her. But, soon, Riri works around a solution and designs herself an armor that can absorb magic and deflect it back to the spell caster.
What is Ironheart about?
We already know that the series will follow Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams after she returns to Chicago and traverses through different obstacles at MIT. She is suddenly entangled with the mysterious Parker Robbins/The Hood and his gang. When that happens, she has to find a way to stop him.
"Set after the events of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, Marvel Television’s “Ironheart” pits technology against magic when Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne)—a young, genius inventor determined to make her mark on the world—returns to her hometown of Chicago. Her unique take on building iron suits is brilliant, but in pursuit of her ambitions, she finds herself wrapped up with the mysterious yet charming Parker Robbins aka “The Hood” (Anthony Ramos)."
The series is set to premiere on June 24, 2025, with three episodes released together. However, it is unclear if the rest of the three episodes will be released weekly or together after that.
