How The Boys' ending could avoid a similar mistake to Star Wars, revealed by Eric Kripke

The Boys and Gen V showrunner Eric Kripke recently addressed the status of Gen V in the universe of the Amazon Prime superhero satire series. The cast and crew of Gen V sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly on August 27, 2025, to promote the upcoming second season. In that interview, the showrunner for Gen V Season 2 will set up The Boys Season 5, but neither series will overshadow the other.

While doing so, Kripke drew an interesting parallel to another popular franchise that has been "struggling," if YouTubers are to be believed: The Star Wars franchise under Disney. The Gen V showrunner specifically pointed at 2022's The Book of Boba Fett.

What did The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke say?

As mentioned earlier, Eric Kripke and the cast and crew of Gen V and its showrunners, Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, all sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly that was published on August 27, 2025. It is here that Kripke teased what we can expect from Gen V Season 2 and its finale, which will stream on Prime Video on October 22, 2025:

"I’m very sensitive to the fact that Gen V should be primarily about the characters from Gen V and The Boys should be primarily about the characters from The Boys. While there can be crossovers and assists and help, it’s a little bit of a rug pull and not a great way when you’ve committed to watching, say, Boba Fett, and then for two episodes of Boba Fett, it’s just the Mandalorian. I don’t wanna do that. We have stories to tell in each one."

Eric Kripke, pointing to the 2022 Disney+ Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett, has fans breathe a sigh of relief. That's because, to this day, fans criticize the show. After all, the fifth and sixth episodes of the seven-episode Boba Fett show did not even feature the titular character. Instead, those two episodes focus solely on Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin. Fett does not even return until the finale of the series.

Therefore, fans are happy to learn that the Prime Video series will keep Gen V and the main series separate from each other. They can crossover a bit, but that doesn't mean that the character from one show will overshadow the other.

What do we know about the fifth season of the Prime Video series?

Season 5 of The Boys will be its last. This was confirmed by showrunner Kripke himself on June 11, 2024, just two days before the fourth season began streaming on Prime Video on June 13, 2024. He did so by announcing this on his social media accounts. He did so by posting a redacted script page from the season 4 finale and the following caption:

"#TheBoys Season 4 Premiere Week is the perfect time to announce: Season 5 will be the Final Season! Which was always my plan, I just had to be cagey about it until I got final permission from @voughtintl. But I’m thrilled to bring this story to a gory, epic, emotional climax. So check out Season 4, premiering THIS THURSDAY, because the end has begun! Hop in for the ride. Which will be bumpy. And probably a little moist. @theboystv @primevideo"
