Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 5 recap: The Sirens and a spa

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 returned this week with a suspenseful episode this week. The fourth episode ended with Clarisse's submarine exploding. Tyson's status is unconfirmed, but we will see him reunite with Percy and Annabeth in an upcoming episode, as the same happened in the second book, The Sea of Monsters, closely.

The fifth episode, like the previous ones, brings more than one chapter to the small screen. This Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 episode adapts the twelfth and thirteenth chapters of The Sea of Monsters. The synopsis for the latest episode reads:

Here are some of the major events in the fifth epsiode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2:

• Percy and Annabeth wake up

The episode opens in the aftermath of the destruction in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 4. Percy gains consciousness as he realizes that he is in a mysterious room. Annabeth is also there, and she informs Percy about Tyson's death. Percy feels a bit guilty, but Annabeth also states the possibility that Tyson may have survived, given that he was fireproof and the son of Poseidon.

Soon, they learn that they are at the C.C.'s Spa & Resort. The two also know that C.C. here is none other than Circe, the sorceress who turned men into guinea pigs. C.C. doesn't deny her identity and claims that she stopped turning men into guinea pigs a long time ago.

• C.C.

The Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 episode features a scene of Percy, Annabeth, and the entire spa are looking at a man in Greek attire, deciding to continue with his quest by attempting to cross the sirens. Soon, the man sails towards the sirens, giving in to their trap, where they devour him off-screen. C.C. claims that her resort trains heroes to pass the specific goal of sailing past the sirens.

For this, she takes Percy and Annabeth to her study and shows them a mirror, which she says shows their flaw. Percy looks into the mirror and sees that he can sacrifice everything for his friends. Annabeth notices a water tornado inside the transparent jug, causing it to break. A disturbed Percy walks out of C.C.'s study room.

• Percy realizes a dark secret

Percy has a conversation with one of the employees at the spa while looking at the bust of the six demigods who sailed past the sirens. He learns that the employee is also a demigod, who entered the spa fifty years ago, the last time a demigod sailed past the sirens. This revelation makes Percy realize something about the spa: it is just an added obstacle to the quest, something not many demigods have figured out.

This Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 episode clarifies that the spa might be like the Lotus Hotel and Casino from the first season.

• Clarisse is trapped by Polyphemus

Meanwhile, Clarisse wakes up on a mysterious island, which she realizes to be her destination as she sees the Golden Fleece, the main McGuffin of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2. However, as Clarisse is trapped by Polyphemus as soon as she begins to walk towards the fleece. He brings Ares's daughter to the cave and leaves it, giving Grover to speak with her. Clarisse tries to escape the cave through a hole in the ceiling with a rope, but fails.

Grover hides an unconscious Clarisse, but is spotted by the cyclops. Some time later, Clarisse wakes up, and she searches for Grover while chatting with him. But she realizes that this was a trap, and the "Grover" she was chatting with after waking up is Polyphemus. He attacks Clarisse and reveals to Grover that he knew the truth all along and just played dumb.

• Percy and C.C. chat

Percy realizes that C.C. has the wax that Odysseus and his men used to sail past the sirens. She has helped only six demigods sail past the Sirens to make the demigods in the spa also believe that they are just trying to work on their fatal flaw. He reveals this discovery to C.C. and makes a deal with her to keep this a secret and stay with her if she gives the wax to Annabeth.

C.C. agrees with the deal only to betray Percy and blow a magical substance on him that transforms him into a guinea pig. She places him inside a cage, where he learns that the other guinea pigs have been trapped her for a long, long time. Annabeth walks and shows C.C. a plan to sail past the sirens.

As C.C. is observing Annabeth's plan, the latter observes the same water tornado in a water bottle and realizes what happens after seeing Riptide in its pen form on the sorceress's table. Annbeth distracts C.C. enough to throw the vitamin tablets Hermes gave to Percy in the second episode. Percy and the other guinea pigs chew the tablets and retain their human bodies, and they escape.

• Percy and Annabeth head for the quest

Percy and Annabeth sail in a boat towards Polyphemus's cave, but realize that there isn't enough wax for the two of them. Percy suggests to Annabeth that she tie him up tightly as the former uses the wax to cover her ears. However, C.C. uses her magical powers and summons the wax, dooming the two heroes. Annabeth walks towards the sirens as Percy tries his best to dissuade her.

The sirens show her a vision of Percy, Luke fighting, and Grover trying to stop them. The sirens draw Annabeth believing that they've trapped her, but she outsmarts them by attacking two sirens. But as soon as the third one is about to attack, Athena kills it, making it Athena's first appearance in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2. The mother and daughter bond, but it is revealed to be a trick by the sirens. But Percy manages to free himself and saves Annabeth.

The two bond over their success, and soon realize that they are on Polyphemus's island, setting up Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 Episode 6, "Nobody Gets the Fleece".
