Peacemaker Season 2 episode 3, Another Rick Up My Sleeve, features another James Gunn staple: obscure characters. This time, it is the terrorist group that Superman clashes with in the comics, the Sons of Liberty. As seen in this episode, they are a paramilitary terror outfit that aims to overthrow the US government in the DC lore.
However, ever since the third episode, many fans on the internet have been posting the theory that there is more to the version of the group that was seen in this episode of Peacemaker Season 2. Many believe that the upcoming episodes of this season will show that the group had a point when they described the alternate dimension status quo as oppressive.
Who are the Sons of Liberty in Peacemaker Season 2?
The terror outfit enters the fray in the second act of this Peacemaker Season 2 episode. There, they attack a government building and take the employees hostage. They plant a bomb inside the building as they wait for some air support from other Sons of Liberty members who are arriving on a helicopter. It is here that John Cena's DCU Peacemaker (impersonating his alternate dimension self) joins the action.
He takes them out brutally one by one, using guerrilla tactics. As that happens, this alternate dimension's Keith/Captain Triumph flies into the helicopter, causing it to explode and fall below. While it is unclear if the fallen burning helicopter caused any collateral damage, no one is bothered by it, and people celebrate Keith and Chris's actions.
This moment, a major detail in this Peacemaker Season 2 episode, and subtle moments from the second season premiere and the intro sequence have caused fans to put forth a wild theory.
Many believe that this alternate dimension is Fascist:
We catch a glimpse of this alternate dimension in the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere. As Chris walks into his alternate dimension self's room, he learns that this version of himself has everything that the DCU Peacemaker ever wished for. The Augee Smith of this reality, who uses the moniker of the Blue (instead of white) Dragon, is really affectionate of him.
The DCU Chris further realizes that his brother Keith is alive in this dimension. But more importantly, Chris learns that the Emilia Harcourt of this dimension, dubbed Harcourt 2, used to date his alternate dimension counterpart. The DCU Chris is attacked by this reality's Peacemaker. Many point out that this version of Chris's "shoot first, ask later" approach is a dead giveaway. But the DCU Chris manages to kill his alternate dimension counterpart.
After doing so, the DCU Chris impersonates his alternate dimension self's counterpart throughout the entirety of the third episode. He is way too happy to notice the subtle details that fans did. Firstly, there is the issue of the background actors. While the DCU continuity is diverse, the same might not apply to the alternate reality.
Then there is a blink and you miss it moment in the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere when the alternate dimension's adult Keith meets the DCU Chris and mistakes him for his brother. Here, Keith name-drops Nightwing's city, Blüdhaven. The way Keith calls "Blüdhaven" is Bluedhaven, which leans towards German rather than the English pronunciation, which is Bloodhaven.
This has led many fans to theorize that this alternate dimension might be Earth X. In the DC Comics lore, Earth X is the Earth in which the Na*is won. The theory posits that the Smith family of this reality is aligned with the Fascist state, and that's why they are wealthy, as seen in Peacemaker Season 2. Fans further point to Harcourt 2's trad-wife attire in the intro sequence resembles the depiction of ideal German women in Na*i propaganda.

"James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of PEACEMAKER and directed three, including the first episode. Gunn, Peter Safran, and John Cena serve as executive producers. Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones also direct. Based on characters from DC, PEACEMAKER is produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television."
