This year, both Tom and Bashioum are veritable no-shows on the ballot. Tom scored a single nod in the Outstanding Younger Performer field. Bashioum tallied two nods, one in the Younger Performer field and one for Favorite Character for Mackenzie Browning.
The big nominations getters belong to two performers who next year at this time will probably only qualify for the Most Missed Performer field. Scott Reeves (Ryan McNeil) and Sabryn Genet (Tricia McNeil) earned seven nominations between them. Reeves, whose onscreen exit played out in late November, earned his second consecutive Outstanding Supporting Actor nomination. In addition to that nomination, Reeves earned a nomination as Most Attractive Male Performer and one in the Outstanding Overall Performer field. All Lead and Supporting Actor and Actress nominees earn Overall Performer nominations.
Genet's Tricia is also said to be on her way out, but before she's gone she racked up a handful of awards. Tricia McNeil grabbed nominations in both the Favorite and Least Favorite Character categories. Genet also earned two nods of her own in the Outstanding Supporting Actress and Overall Performer categories.
While still discussing Tricia and Ryan, Tricia's ongoing relationship with an imaginary - and very much dead - Matt Clark, compelled voters to nominate the storyline, that we dubbed "I See Dead People," in both the Favorite and Least Favorite Storyline fields. This was not an uncommon occurrence as nearly every soap's final ballot features at least one storyline getting both Favorite and Least Favorite Storyline nods. Matt's attempted sexual assault of Sharon was named as a nominee for Worst Moment of the year.
As mentioned previously, this year's nominations took a decidedly different tone than last year. Veteran performers featured very prominently in balloting. Peter Bergman (Jack Abott) and Michelle Stafford's (Phyllis Summers) on-screen relationship captured the hearts - and nominations - of viewers. Bergman was once again nominated in the Lead Actor field. Stafford, who narrowly lost out on the Supporting Actress win last year, this year earned a Lead Actress nomination. In addition to her Lead Actress nod, Stafford was also nominated in the Most Attractive Female Performer and Phyllis Summers was nominated as the Favorite Character. Both Bergman and Stafford, of course, received Outstanding Overall Performer nods. Jack's spontaneous proposal to Phyllis garnered a Most Memorable Moment nomination.
